Todd Haley sat down with Mike Vick and went over the initial game plan … play-by-play.

Or as the Steelers offensive coordinator put it, “likes and dislikes.”

With Vick being with the Steelers for only a little more than a month, there were a lot of dislikes that came from the meeting.

“I had to eliminate the plays that I am not comfortable with,” Vick said. “As of right now, we had a ton of them.”

Actually, that might not be a bad thing...........

Hopefully the eliminated plays aren't plays that worked well...this kind of thing scares me...but hopefully it's for the good. I'd rather see him executing several different plays out of different formations than go in and have zero clue what's going on...

So....the same pattern as Vick's entire career. He is a combination of stupid and lazy when it comes to preparation. Combine that with the fact that a number of his physical skills have eroded to a large degree and we should have a great 4-6 weeks of QB play.

Oh well. He was the best of what was out there. It could be worse, it could have been Christian Ponder time.

Perhaps things are different this time. Vick didn't take any short cuts in getting his personal life back in order, maybe he'll do the same in the football part of his life. I didn't like what I saw after Ben was injured but I don't think that was all on Vick. He had no reps according to Decastro and I don't believe Haley was prepared himself. Vick knows this is his last stand, he's got great players around him who want him to succeed. He didn't have this with the Eagles & Jets and I have to believe he would like to depart from football as a winner.

“Guys are encouraging me to play to win, don't play to lose,” said Vick, who has lost 12 of his past 15 starts with the Eagles and Jets. “They know the position and they know it is fairly early for me. I am confident in myself and confident in what I am doing, and I like our game plan.”

I think he can do it and I sure hope he does.

Vick had some pretty decent players around him in Philadelphia. McCoy, Avant, Maclin, Jackson, Celek. He had a couple few good years in Philadlephia.

I had to eliminate plays I am not comfortable with

In other words, plays he can't possibly understand and/or perform. How many years has this idiot been in the NFL, and he still can't handle certain plays?

It's a golden opportunity to salvage any respect for his career. If he cannot make something happen within a couple of weeks, then he will go down as a liar, but not a cheat. No other offense will give him access to the most tools for success. What a waste of a career if it turns out bad.

Not holding my breath on the intellectual prowess of Michael Vick. Maybe Fichtner should have spent some time getting his backup QB ready.

Or, this is all BS and a smoke screen to get Baltimore over confident. Trouble is Vick is just not that swift.

Mike Kruczek may have been the luckiest backup QB of all time.

Had 2 1000 yd RBs, one was a HOFer. HOF receivers. HOF center. Greatest defense of all time.

He only knew 2 plays. Handoff to Franco. Handoff to Rocky.

As long as the playbook isn't reduced to things that force a predictable plain-vanilla offense and handcuff Vick's ability to be a playmaker, this could be a good thing.

You have to remember, Vick barely got here a month ago, and by that point everyone's focus had moved far beyond learning the playbook. If there's one guy who ought to be able to get by on knowing just enough and improvising the rest, it's him. After all, it's what he's been doing for most of his career.

Yeah, it really should have three runs and 1 pass. What is Haley thinking?! Also, don't fool me into thinking the bubble screens are gone!!!

Vick should be used to it. After all, this is also the playbook of Frank Beamer's VT Hokies.... :coffee:

For a minute, I thought Run 1 was off tackle. No way is that in our playbook.

Not a priority; they assumed Ben would stay upright so no need to get Vick ready.

Should they not have addressed the #2 RB position BEFORE Bell went down? Sure, they should have, but they didn't because it would have cost money. So, playoff time and we have no back worth a warm cup of spit.

I don't know where you got it but it's clearly a fake. There's no bubble screen on it...somebody fooled you...

They may add some stuff to the playbook as well. I'm not going to bash Vick yet. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but the guy can play football and he can still do it at an acceptable level.

Quarterbacks meeting with the OC to go over the playbook to add or remove plays they like or dislike is a common thing. It happens on a weekly basis with starters. That part is nothing new. Scaling the playbook back for a backup isn't anything new either...keep in mind that some of these plays may run better to one side or another and because Vick is a lefty, they may not work that well for him.

It should be a simple playbook for him, look toward primary receiver, if he is covered, run for your life.

I would think it's look toward primary receiver, if he is covered then check down to Le'Veon Bell...

Bell could have a huge night for total yards.
