Anthony Becht: ‘Big Ben Could Return In Two Weeks’

It’s hard to fathom the amount of injuries around the NFL, especially through the first three weeks this season. Another big one came Sunday when Rams safety Mark Barron sacked Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, hitting him just below his left knee. Luckily for the Steelers, it wasn’t an ACL injury, but a sprained MCL and a bone bruise. Reports have said he will miss four to six weeks and Michael Vick will take over.

Former 12-year NFL tight end and current Bucs pre and post game analyst on WDAE Anthony Becht joined us on the Brown and Scoop podcast on CBS Radio’s Play.it and iTunes and believes there is a chance Big Ben only misses two weeks. Becht missed just one game in his NFL career with the same MCL injury.

The bone bruise complicates things a bit. By Ben's own admission it hurts like hell at the moment. That said when asked Ben refused to rule himself out of any games after Thursday's upcoming game with the Ravens. After this game he considers himself week to week.

No link, heard this listening to 93.7 driving on the Pa turnpike on the way to Erie.

It wouldn't surprise me...Ben is one tough guy. I could see him and Lambert playing with leather helmets and 3 inch spikes in the 30's

I wouldn't risk it so early in the season. There are still a lot games left to play for him to risk the injury. Better for him to get healthy and then play.

The MCL is the least of the worry...it's the bone bruise that can really complicate things if it's not handled properly...

Even if he returns will he still be playing at a high level or will there be at least a few games where he is timid and not playing like himself?

Guess just looking to make headlines? Ben's injury is Ben's injury. There is one guy you know that if he can go, he will go.

So I what for Ben to say he is ready, not listening to sports jocks, or other Internet doctors.

I just hope he doesn't come back before he's actually ready.

My thoughts exactly. From what I read on bone bruises, even though they don't SOUND like very big of a deal, apparently, they often can be. And watching replays of this injury, I am shocked nothing tore. This was a very nasty event.

Erie, huh? My old stomping grounds. Lived in the area for over a decade. It's turning into a real shit hole.

I'd rather Vick just wins a game or two so he can take his time coming back.

Yeah I call bullshit. Of course Ben won't rule himself out. I bet it kills him to miss another Ravens game. But I think the brass knows he needs to rest for at least 4 weeks, maybe 5-6. Personally, I've been saying he'll be back in 5 in time for Cincinnati and I'm sticking to it. Ohio is Ben's bitch so you know he's gonna be ready for that.

Ben thought his leg was broken when it happened. Damn that was lucky I suppose.

I think it's encouraging that Ben is on the sideline and not on crutches and seems to be moving around pretty well.

Hope like hell he misses no more than two games.

I read Tomlin has a no crutch rule on the sideline.

Yeah, they mentioned it on TV. At least he can stand without them and he is moving around. There are 11 days till we play again.

If he's gone for six he may as well spend the rest of the season healing up because there more than likely won't be much of a season to salvage.

Thank you, Mark Barron.
