On Sunday, the Steelers will be challenged to defend a quarterback who showed he may be evolving into a mature, patient passer. Yet, the defense can't ignore the athleticism Colin Kaepernick parlayed into assuming command of the San Francisco 49ers.
Kaepernick, in his third full season as a starter, looked sharp and polished in a season-opening 20-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday. Unlike last season's uneven performance, he was calm while under duress.........

Hopefully they are getting good practice chasing Vick around the field. I think Kaepernick is going to be a major problem for this "defense."

I doubt the Steelers apply much pressure at all.
Kaepernick is going to look like the second coming of Jesse Owens.

Well they have the personnel to stop Kap from running all over the place. It isn't that difficult, put a spy on him (best option would be Shazier or Spence because they can play normal position but have the speed to recover if Kap takes off), have the OLB's contain the edge, run inside stunt/blitz's for pressure and actually cover the WR's (unlike last game) and we should be fine. Will they do that? We will see.

They sure talk a lot
“We need to affect the quarterback. That means sacks, pressures and incomplete passes,” Heyward said. “We might just touch (Kaepernick), but it's something to rattle him. A hit quarterback is a nonefficient quarterback.”

Well, that means they're not going to rattle Kaepernick, and he's going to have a career game Sunday.
They will try to confuse Kaepernick by playing ten yards off and leaving most receivers wide open which will cause him to hold the ball longer trying to decide who to throw it to.

They don't need to sack him and hit him. They just need to get him moving without taking off running, and then he sucks. It'll be a ball in the dirt every time.
What do I expect? Some ineffective blitzes where we get burned by leaving a linebacker to cover the tight end or slot receiver, and then straight vanilla D from then on.

Remember, Vernon Davis has been nonexistent for years now...watch him be a major factor this week and watch him wind up the top fantasy football free agent for the week to come...

yeah, how in the world will Kap be able to figure out which wide open receiver to throw to? and if we can get him to hold onto the ball for at least 8 seconds while he's deciding then Jarvis Jones can get the sack

I wonder if these are the same guys who were going to knock Gronks timing off?

Yep.
As as I said in (one of the other hundred) Niners threads: Spy Kaepernick with Shazier. Have both safeties play in the box. Stop Hyde, stop Kaep from running.. and force Kaep to throw the ball.

If they don't, Hyde and Krappernick will have 350 yards rushing...easily...lol.

The Steelers sure like to smack their gums. How did that turn out last week, you know, the whole, "We will jam Gronk and knock him off his timing" thing? They sure liked talking all tough. How did that work out? Oh, that's right, he dominated us. 3 TDs, wide open all night. Now they are saying they will rattle Kap? I see 30, 40, 50 yards sprints up field from Kap now. Or, he won't rush but will pick our lamest secondary to pieces. What, they didn't get the chance to talk about how they will destroy Hyde yet? Maybe chirp up on how Davis won't get past a jam, and then not even cover him with a defender at all?

Shazier hurt again. So, when does this become a trend?

Heyward is right... When you hit the QB,every QB became less effective

His career game was against the Packers in the playoffs in 2012.
In fact, the best games of CK were always against the packers, so if Kaerpernick has a career game against the Steelers, the defense will be historically bad this year.
