View Full Version : Time to start Harrison? Should he start?

End the Jones fiasco. Sure he made a play, but other than that what did he really do? That's not a rhetorical question. I am interested in knowing. I may have missed some positive things. He looks to be nothing more than an average LB on his best day.

Harrison was running across the field to make tackles. He plays hard and it shows. The rest of the players(not all) seem more interested in dancing when they finally make a play. You are getting burned all over the field and you have the nerve to start dancing when you actually make a play, or more accurately, when the Patriots misfire?

Nope Harrison is a fill in we need to know by the end of this season if Jarvis needs cut or not!

I am by no means a JJ supporter but I thought he flashed some potential tonight. Harrison should definitely be getting a big share of snaps though. He is too good not to. If anyone should sit (and I am not saying they should) it would be Moats. James is our best OLB and JJ we need answers on. Moats is just kind of there.

You put your best players on the field, and that definitely was not Jones. Next week is a winnable game and I would rather see us go all-out trying to win than tinkering to see who's any good or not.

So sacrifice skill, playmaking, Steelers only pass rusher and the soul of the defense for another season of figuring out Jones? I get what you are saying, but I don't think they should wait an entire season. Harrison will probably be gone at the end of the season.

I would have cut/traded Jones after pre-season.

I expect harrison and jones to be gone at the end of this season

There's a reason Brady doesn't get sacked often: he gets rid of the ball quickly. So I'm not going to point at this game and scream "Jarvis Jones needs cut the second the plane lands."

Also the plan going into the season was to not use Harrison too much early so he still has gas in the tank at the end of the year.

Jones shouldn't have been on the plane to begin with.

I'm not a huge Jones fan either, but he played better last night than he showed in the preseason and he was getting a lot of push...I would consider waiting to judge him...but to answer your question, I would say no...not yet. I would play him sparingly for now and the. Towards the middle/end of the season, I would start playing him more...for a playoff run...hopefully.

I noticed Harrison quite a bit, seemed like more than the 15 snaps or whatever they wanted to keep him under. Jarvis seemed like he was getting more push than Tuitt out there, so I don't think one week against Tom Brady where the secondary was playing like shit is a good indicator of how Jarvis will do this season.

Better to leave Harrison healthy for the run down the stretch.

I'd keep Deebo's snaps low until the last half of the season. We will definitely need him.

I'm not exactly thrilled w/Jarvis Jones but it's early.

Jones showed improvement last night. Just read a post about him on the debut. If he keeps an upward trend this defense may just be a solid contender.

Jarvis Jones was a 1st round draft pick and people still want to give him time? He has shown minimal improvement and looks completely lost more times than not. I'd love to see the guy pick it up and become what he was supposed to be but I have trouble seeing this happen.

I've been pretty hard on Jones, but I'd give him a few more games before benching him.

Jones played much stronger on Thursday night from what I saw. I would not measure his performance in that game by sacks, as Brady was typically getting rid of the ball so quickly since our corners played 10-12 yards off the line.

He consistently got push against the Pats LT Solder, who is not a slouch.

While this will not a popular opinion, I'd say keep starting him and mix in Harrison for the time being.

i agree with this. lets wait until were not playing arguably the best QB to play the game:puke:( i cant believe i just typed that) before we make a decision on him. we play a bad QB next weekend, i bet he has a better game.

yeah Jones actually surprisingly schooled Vollmer quite a few times. As said before, i want to see what we have in a guy who may or may not have a future with us rather than Harrison, who we know what were getting with him

The only problem is they may need Harrison to get to January.

True. As I was typing my post, I had that exact thought.

I'd like to see Jones have an opportunity for 4-6 weeks develop and if not, Harrison to the finish...so I voted "No" for the moment...

Harrison played more snaps than any of the other of the outside linebackers. Starting doesn't matter. Snap count does. There is a lot of jumping to conclusions after one game.

To get into a groove. Changing players in and out can make it tough to get a feel for the current game.

To get into a groove. Changing players in and out can make it tough to get a feel for the current game.

Then, that is a totally different question. "Should the Steelers rotate their 4 OLBers?". As it stands, Harrison saw the field more than any other outside linebacker. If you are arguing that they need to stop rotating the players and simply play the top two the vast majority of the snaps - then we are talking about something different the entire current set-up the Steelers are employing.

Whether we, as fans, would prefer the rotation or not - the reality is the Steelers are locked into it. Harrison and Dupree, for different reasons, each can not play a whole game for 17 weeks. Dupree will eventually hit the rookie wall - they all do. And Harrison is 37 and needs to keep his legs fresh. So they are going to have to rotate. I would like to see the rotations mixed up a bit. Maybe Dupree and Harrison?
