View Full Version : Dri Archer Will Be Key for Steelers' Early-Season Success

Dri Archer won't replace Le'Veon Bell for the Pittsburgh Steelers this Thursday.

The Steelers are playing the New England Patriots in the NFL regular-season opener without their suspended star running back. Bell had emerged into one of the best backs in the NFL last year, but the NFL suspended him for the first two games for a substance-abuse violation.

Knowing that the suspension was coming, the Steelers went out in the offseason and brought in veteran runner DeAngelo Williams to take Bell's place in the starting lineup.

Williams would have been a fine replacement for Bell, who could comfortably fit into the offense and complement the passing game as a strong runner. Since Bell's suspension, the Steelers have had to readjust because of a severe injury to center Maurkice Pouncey and a suspension to Martavis Bryant.

Losing Pouncey will detract from the versatility of the team's rushing attack and screen game. Losing Bryant will make its play-action threat less severe and force the offense to spread the ball around more.

Those two losses should push Archer into a greater role.

Well, then there goes the early part of the season.

How did they allow themselves to get to that position? Or is this just posturing for Belicheat?

Archer hasn't done a damn thing to warrant even being on the roster.

I guess Miller, Brown, Wheaton, Johnson, DHB, etc must be injured or something.

Archer is a specific tool for a specific job - assuming he ever figures out how to do that. Nothing more.

Anyone expecting anything different is foolish. So Bleacher Report makes sense.

Who wrote this, Archer's mother? When I see 250lb + defensive linemen catching him from behind I just sit there shaking my head.

What tool and what job? If you DO have an answer for those questions, could you let Tomlin and Colbert know???

Returner and match-up problem on offense. That is Haley's vision. Archer just sucks at it. So did Stefan Logan. So did Chris Rainey. So did whatever other no-names they have brought in.

You think they would learn, but for some damnable reason they seem to want to beat their heads on this particular wall over and over again.

He will be a total non-factor on Thursday. He will also be a non-factor for the entire season.

Archer is a classic example of a Tomlin splash player dream.

Stefan Logan is Hall of Fame and Chris Rainey is an All-Pro compared to what Archer has produced. He's straight up garbage to date. I'd rather waste a roster spot on Landry Jones than Archer.

At this point, I don't even know if this can be pinned on Haley anymore...

What tool and what job? He's "supposed" to be able to shoot the gaps, squirt through them and break free. Like a mouse running around a herd of elephants. Problem, is he can't find the gaps.

The only way that Archer is a "key" for success is if he doesn't touch the ball. There's the "key". Make him inactive for each game.

By "those two losses", do they mean the losses to the Pats** and Niners? Because that's what will happen if Dri Archer is the key to success.

In that case, they're fucked.

When Archer is is the game, you may as well throw that down into the shitter. He scares nobody and is no threat whatsoever. The Steelers are better off trotting out 10 players.
