View Full Version : Don't blame Butler for the poor defensive play

Good September morning,
Some Stuff:
--- The way the Steelers are dealing away picks, it will be a short third day of the draft next spring. They have traded away their fourth (or fifth) for Brandon Boykin and their sixth for Josh Scobee. They did not lose much in free agency so there won’t be much compensatory return, if any.
--- People already are blaming Keith Butler for the poor defensive play in the preseason. Chuck Noll in his prime could not have done a better job with what they have had in the preseason.
--- The real problem for that defense is the preseason is coming quickly to a close and the real games begin when all those big plays will count.

Gotta have the horses if you want to win the race. We got plow animals instead of thoroughbreds.

what cracks me up is simple ...
Lebeau run out of town for poor defensive performance and people said hey the change was needed ( when it was the players screwing up )
Butler gets backed for same poor performances and now all the sudden its not the coaches fault but the players he was dealt ...
what makes it even more laughable is now we are changing to a scheme we really have no business changing to because we lack the personnel to do so ..
if you are going to play the tampa 2 you better have solid Safety play and safety is worse on this team than corner at this point ( that in no way is a vote of confidence in our corners )
change for the sake of change is never a good idea , only real difference now is a lot more square peg round hole decisions are being made ... play to your strengths not away from them

Bull shit, bull shit, bull shit. LeBeau was still desperately trying to cling to Troy being what he was in his prime, and was lightly to repeat that plan this year. They told Dicky Doo that the Troy era was over with and he threw a hissy fit. Dick's unyielding worship of the old guys was over the top. The Butler-Tomlin group effort may indeed be fail, but that doesn't mean booting tricky Dick wasn't the right move. His defiance of younger players was just cracked.
