Martavis Bryant is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, but nobody is talking about it yet.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin declined to comment on Bryant's possible suspension following the Steelers 43-19 preseason loss to Buffalo because “there are still a lot of those elements still unresolved. I will address it when we get a totality of it.”..........

With Bryant facing a suspension now indicates he had a prior positive test. Under the substance abuse provisions, a player does not get to a four-game suspension until his first positive test or offense after being moved to what is called to Stage II of the program.
The NFL's substance abuse policy is different from the policy on performance enhancing drugs. NFL players are tested for recreational drugs once a year, during a window mandated by the collectively bargained substance abuse policy between April 20 and early during the preseason.
Bryant, a fourth-round pick out of Clemson, has been in the league only 16 months.
Does this mean that he couldn't possible have been in the league long enough to get a 4 game suspension for recreational
drugs? If so, then 2 failed tests means only a 2 game fine at this point. He would have to be at least a 3 year veteran to get suspended.....
Marijuana discipline: The punishment for a positive test is also changing. As is the case now, a first-time offense lands the player in the substance abuse program without a suspension. The primary difference is the punishment for a second positive test: simply a two-game fine. Each additional violation receives the following progressive discipline: four-game fine, four-game suspension, 10-game suspension. A player can therefore test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended.
PED discipline: First-time offenders can be suspended four games for using a banned substance (including HGH). Any attempt to cover up results of a test (a masking agent, for instance) gets a six-game ban.

Maybe this has something to do with whatever he was given for his elbow surgery. :noidea: Both Tomlin and MB seemed surprised by the suspension so I'm thinking there's more to this story than weed.
