With Chip Kelly having full control over the Eagles' player personnel department, there's no doubt it was his decision to trade Brandon Boykin to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday evening. Now that Boykin is gone, he had some thoughts to share on his former coach. According to Derrick Gunn of CSN Philly, Boykin said the following message in a text:

"The truth is Chip is uncomfortable around grown men of our culture. He can't relate, and that makes him uncomfortable, he likes to be in total control of everything. Players can excel when you naturally let them be who they are and in my experience that hasn't been important to him. I'm forever grateful to Mr. Lurie, Howie, my teammates, and fans of Philadelphia."

Hmmmm....maybe Shady McCoy wasn't too far off in his statements.

Either way, I am not a fan of airing dirty laundry. I don't care for McCoy making his comments in public and I think it's a bad look for Boykin.

If I were a player, I would appreciate the heads up. I wouldn't want to play for someone who appears to maybe be an ass.

Isn't this kind of (unfortunately) common when these control freak college coaches jump to the NFL? They are used to being viewed as infallible dictators by young men and have no ability to deal with grown men who are seasoned professionals. I feel like similar things have been said about Saban and others.

Either way, Kelly better win this season or his seat is going to get pretty warm.

There is a rumor Chip Kelly has a Confederate flag up at his home.

More and more it sounds like Kelly isn't well liked amongst the players...

As soon as Boykin followed up with "Chip isn't a racist" that's where my mind went--he can deal with college kids when he's basically the dictator and can yank a scholly at any time, but when the players are working for someone else (the GM and owner) and have contracts, he has a harder time. It puts him in a position where he's in some ways more a colleague than a boss.

No, that's sarcastic.

Boykin: Chip Kelly is not racist but didn't feel like he understood his culture.

What culture would that be? This is football. What culture interferes with football?

To that end he has heard great things about Mike Tomlin from former teammates Jarvis Jones, Brad Wing and Al Villanueva.

As Harrison said, Tomlin is just one of the guys.

IF Eagles don't truly contend for a ring this year, those fans are gonna skin Chippy alive.

Boykin is already "back peddling"...no pun intended.

Chip will just trade the fans away and anyone else he doesn't like :chuckle:

Please don't let this become a distraction. He's a member of the Steelers now so I'd like to put the past in the past.
