Steelers cut roster to 75
By Bob Labriola – Steelers Digest

The Steelers made their first wave of cuts to get down to Tuesday’s mandatory roster limit of 75, and an additional move included the release of a player who has a couple of Super Bowl rings.

The Steelers believe they have a rookie class with a lot of potential, and this was reflected in the initial wave of moves because none of those released was a rookie. The players waived included LB Brandon Renkart, CB David Pittman, FB Dwayne Wright and G Adrian Jones. Rookie guard Chris Scott was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, and veteran OLB Andre Frazier – a part of the team for both Super Bowls XL and XLIII – was released from the injured reserve list

Ok. The easy ones are done. Gets a bit more difficult later in the week. Thursdays game will be do or die for 22 guys. Make some plays, or pack your bags. That's the harsh reality.

I'm glad all the rookies are still here. Still I don't think there are any huge surprises so far.

I believe the last few cuts on Saturday will be guys we'd like to place on the practice squad. The less time they spend "available" the better chance we have to keep them.

Any guesses on who the surprise cuts might be??

I'm gonna go with Battles and Hartwig.

For those wanting to participate in this "game", please note there are certain requirements for a player to be eligible for the practice squad...

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/9804/pszk0.jpg

So guys like Batch, Battle, Hartwig or other vets would not be available based on there tenure. I'm not even sure a guy like Vincent is eligible anymore from the way this reads because he's been on ours for 3 years.

I would think Jonathon Scott sticks around.

I would think Jonathon Scott sticks around.

Scott and Summers were the two that I think 50-50....They might be casualties of the number game.

The O-line should be (if I guess correctly)

Pouncey at Center with either Legursky or Hartwig in reserve.
Kemo/Essex at Guard with Urbik/Foster behind them (Legursky also plays guard)
Adams/Starks at Tackle with Hills/Foster behind them (Foster/Essex both play guard/tackle)

That would be 9 players with the backups of Legursky/Urbik/Foster/Hills....So there IS a chance for Scott to stay.

At RB we would have Mendy/Redman/Moore. With Dwyer/Summers on the bubble.

surprise cut? hmmm...how about foote? i doubt it very much(due to salary), but it would be a surprise.

With special teams in mind, I think Butler could push Madison for the last CB spot. It's a longshot, but if other CB's like Lewis or Burnett can run the gunner effectively, keeping Butler would be a youth move. One pick doesn't get him there by itself though.

I think Summers makes it as the 4th RB as FB. (you must have Dwyer instead) Close call either way, but I only see 4 making it.

The 2 wildcards in all of this are Hartwig and Batch. If we cut Hartwig, we keep Urbik and Legursky. Cut Batch, and you have your 6th WR to keep Brown... or Logan.

I also think one of the other OT's make it. Scott would be my choice so far. Hills is the only other OT I have at backup... other than Foster.

I think we may keep 4 safeties...with Mundy and Allen as the backups. Allen can play both FS and SS.

But you could be right...It will be interesting to see who we cut and who gets picked up by another team.
