Personally, I want the ball in just about anyone else's hands unless something is dramatically different this year. A running back who's easy to bring down and can't find a hole; a receiver who can't get open. Straight-line speed doesn't count for much without the football instincts to go with it.

The problem is he left his feet. Mike Wallace can't jump.

What are you, a moron? He doesn't get paid to jump.

And we can see why.

That was a pretty terrible pass though...lol.

He was able to get both hands on the ball. A competent receiver pulls that one down.

Apparently he's not paid to catch either.

I think Pouncey said it best recently, not getting it past the 15 yard line is unacceptable.

In my opinion Pouncey was right in his call on Archer.

God forbid if we gots ta go to the old "what have ya done for me lately" point of view.

Won't argue that. But it's not an easy catch.

Archer had instincts in college, so what happened since?

Instead of making wine, he squashed grapes last year.

The talent he's facing is a tiny bit better...

That wouldn't explain his running instincts totally disappearing. His production drop could be explained by it, but not an absence of total rushing instincts.

Jury's still out on Archer. You can count me among the skeptics, but he wouldn't be the first guy who needed a full year to adapt to the league So I wont dismiss the possibility that he could be a productive player this season.

Yeah it could. His instincts are the same, just what's worked for most of his life doesn't work now. I suspect that in college, he was fast enough that it made his instincts look better than they really were. In the pros, his speed is nothing special, so it makes him look like he doesn't know what he's doing.

Probably a lot of times when he got the ball last year, his instinct was to outrun someone or make them miss, only in the pros there's a guy waiting there to drop you on your ass, because the middle linebacker isn't a slow white guy who's in the MAC because he would've faced long odds trying to walk on at Michigan; he's a former All-American with 4.4 speed who knows all the angles and has been playing against guys as fast as Archer for his whole career. So, he looks bad.

It could if his instincts really weren't that good but enhanced by the oppositions instincts being equally bad.

Hilarious. Thanks for finding that.

Did you notice how Wallace jumped for no reason? But when he needs to jump he keeps his feet firmly on the ground. He is one of the most fundamentally unsound WRs I have seen play.

He's busy concentrating on not getting taken down.

I would say his speed is special. He ran a 4.26 40. Only Chris Johnson ran faster in the recent era. That is very special. Now, does that speed alone mean anything? No. But it is special.

Look at the stats for any player in the NFL with similar size/speed/height #'s as Archer. Almost every single one of them did not really become a productive receiver/returner/runner until their second or third NFL season.

Some never do, but to write Archer off after one season of light use, a steep learning curve, etc would be a bit premature.

I by no means am arguing that Archer is a lock to be good or "break out", but he gets one more preseason at least.

I still think he was a questionable 3rd round pick, I hope he proves me wrong. I don't know what Archer will do this year, but I'm not going to judge him on his rookie year. I will only watch, and hope for the best. At any rate, if he gets the ball or not is in his hands. I think the Steelers will give him every chance to succeed. Ball in your court Dri, make the best of it.

I'm going to try to take a positive attitude towards Archer this year. I was excited for him last year. Majorly disappointed after seeing him throughout the season. I'm going to try to wipe the slate clean and go with a fresh attitude!
