Question: What do you guys honestly think about Penn State's QB? Is he a really, really good QB who played behind a bad offensive line, or is he average and maybe slightly above average if the line improves?

Either way, I think the future is bright for Penn State with the penalties all lifted. They'll have full scholarships from now on and be able to compete in bowls. The East is obviously going to be the best conference in the B1G with Ohio State and Sparty 1 and 2, Penn State 3, and M*ch*gan should be on the uptick with Harbaugh as coach.

I cannot wait. I personally feel that Hackenberg is a great QB. I feel that he has some kinks to workout, but he is good. He has had a lot against him with different coaches, a young line and a ton of controversy in general. He has a good arm, he can run the ball and he is not easy to take down. I like him. I think he will go far. IMHO.

86WARD

I like Hackenberg a lot as well. He makes some bad mistakes every now and again, but for the most part, he's been pretty good. Definitely one of the better PSU QBs in a long time...

I personally think Hack is a great QB. Freshman year was a huge year for him, but he did have an elite WR who he could chuck it to when the pressure was on. Last year, the pressure was on every single snap and he had no elite WR to chuck it to. I think with the revamped/improved OL, a steady running game, and good in game coaching, he will be in the discussion for Heisman. If I am wrong about all this then I am really going to be dreading watching PSU games this year.

Aside from the first quarter, that game was a nightmare and I'm not sure Franklin and that coaching staff know what to do...

Polamalu Princess
09-05-2015, 08:59 PM
I agree. It was not even close. Something really BIG has to change. The OL has to get it together, but that is just the cusp of the problem and there is so much more going on that needs to be dealt with. The coaches need to get their focus on the players and the strength that they have and not just try to not lose. Just a very bad day for PSU.

Need to drop the OC Donovan. His play calling is horrible, and he is making Hack look like a hack. If Franklin get rid of him and brings in a competent OC, then this team will be extremely dangerous with the talent that Franklin is able to recruit.

Agree with this. Was thinking the same last night while watching the game on delay. The team is talented, they just aren't being utilized. Hackenberg probably dropped from a first round selection to a second rounder after this season.

Second round? I was really thinking more second day (I say that with the understanding that rounds 1-2 are on day one in the draft, been awhile since I have watched the draft and didn't look up the draft rounds per day). I truly think that if he declares at the end of this season he would be a 3-5 round pick. He has the talent, doesn't have the game right now. He lost to Temple, played like crap against Temple, and hasn't shown much since. Just my opinion.

Now, if PSU and Franklin brought in a capable OC that is good at working with QB's (and they need to because there are a few behind Hack that could be great QB's) next year and Hack stays for his senior year, then he could be in for a hug pay day in the first round.

Please JF, drop your loyalty and get rid of Donovan. You will only be benefiting yourself, Hack, PSU, and future recruiting efforts.

Penn State loses to UGA in the made up whatever bowl. It was actually a well played game by PSU. Had a few moments where they looked flat, but for the most part they played pretty good. A lot closer than I thought it would be, i was expecting a 30 pt blow out.

Hackenburg declared for the NFL draft. Personally, I think it is a mistake. He has the tools, not the smarts right now. Maybe behind a real O-line he will be good, but he makes horrible decisions and has a hard time making easy throws. I really think he will be a bust. Wish him the best, but time will tell.

Looking forward to next year though. Donovan gone as OC, and a new guy coming in who seems like he knows what the heck he is doing. He took UConn and made them a prolific offense while he was with UConn, so with the talent that Franklin has brought in, it should be fun to watch. Can't be any worse to watch than the offense this year was at least.

Gator Bowl.

Disappointing loss for Penn State...typical of this season. I didn't expect a lot from PSU this season, but I thought they would perform a little better than they did. Hackenberg was well below what he was in 2014...I thought he should stay one more year to try to improve his draft position...but whatever. He'll disappear in the NFL after being drafted in the 4th or 5th round.

Looks like they have a tough QB in McSorley

What's not to like about a three-touchdown win? Well, a few things.

But the Lions also made some plays when needed. Here's what jumped out to me ...

1. Is Lions' QB Trace McSorley too tough for his own good? The redshirt sophomore dual-threat is a feisty one. But an occasional slide or two to finish a run wouldn't be the worst thing for the 200-pound trigger man. McSorley carried 14 times for 47 yards and also survived a helmet-to-helmet hit from Kent State LB James Alexander, who was ejected for targeting. "That's kind of who he is. We're going to run our quarterback,'' James Franklin said of McSorley afterward. It's a long season, and PSU is going to face some bigger, faster defenses. Let's see how this strategy plays out.

Congrats on the Big Ten Championship. My Hawks fell short this year, but hey, they did manage to take Michigan down with em! To be completely honest, y'all should be in over OSU. Y'all really only had one bad game all year with a completely depleted linebacking corps and you won the head to head against OSU. That coupled with the conference championship should be enough to over take them in my opinion.

Penn State beat them head to head, won the Big Ten, won the last 9 games, all more positives then what OSU can offer and possibly more than Washington can offer but I think the committee goes Alabama, Clemson, OSU, Washington.

Nobody is beating Alabama IMO. They're not too shabby...

It's Alabama, Clemson Ohio State, Washington. I think the committee got it right putting the 4 power 5 teams with the best record in. You can't lose 2 games in a season in college football and expect to get in

86WARD
12-04-2016, 01:29 PM
You can argue though that PSU deserves to be in over Ohio State. They beat OSU, play in the same conference as OSU, won that said conference, have won 9-straight games...there's a case that Penn State should be in over Ohio State and its a good one. You could also make a good argument that PSU should be in over Washington. Washigtons out of conference games were pretty weak. Penn States weren't powerhouses but you have Pitt who beat them and Clemson, you have Temple who was the eventual AAC Champion and Kent State...producer of Steelers LBs...lol.

Like I said, I think it's all fodder for the eventual champion, Alabama...but I do think there is a really good case to be made for Penn State.

You also have to understand why OSU made it in. Losers of only 1 game compared to PSU's 2 losses, won against Michigan (the same Michigan that Penn State beat by 39), beat Wisconsin in Wisconsin, beat Oklahoma in Oklahoma, one of only 9 teams to do so in Bob Stoop's 18-year career. Tougher SOS. Plus OSU probably poses the biggest threat to Alabama's national title hopes

It's because Haley or Nix don't have any relation to Penn State...lol.

35-42 PSU...this third quarter is taking forever...lol.

USC helping McSorley out with a couple late hits to keep the drive alive. Definite targeting on Smith on that play and looks like Smith should be ejected...

Over 800 yards of offense in less than three quarters. Much better game to watch than most of the other bowls.

I was going to say that the only bad thing about PSU's quick scores, is that we only took four minutes off of the clock.

Love Barkley, and only a sophomore!

36 total points scored in the third. Definitely not boring. USC is going to miss Smith. Going to run the hell out of Barkley.

I think Penn State needs to score one more time.
