Ken Stabler, Raiders legend, dead at age 69

Longtime Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken Stabler died Thursday in Gulfport, Miss., according to WPMI. He was 69 years old.

His death was confirmed by Fox WBRC, via a University of Alabama spokesman, and through a statement from Stabler's family that said he died of colon cancer.

"He passed peacefully surrounded by the people he loved most, including his three daughters and longtime partner, as some of his favorite songs played in the background, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd's 'Sweet Home Alabama' and Van Morrison's 'Leaves Falling Down.'"

Terrible. Even though he was a Raider, I was a fan of his. Probably my second favorite Raider of all time behind Marcus Allen. RIP "Snake."

Boy he sure knew how to throw a ball and thread it with Cliff Branch didn't he? I really liked him and he made the Steelers/Raiders games great! RIP Snake. Gone but never forgotten.

Yes I always liked Ken Stabler The Snake RIP and, he seemed like a good guy.

The Snake was a thorn in my ass as a kid as a raider, but I always respected the way he played the game.
