Joey Porter has adopted a familiar tactic when trying to drive home a point while coaching the Steelers’ outside linebackers.

“I always mess with them,” said Porter, a defensive assistant last season who was given a position after former linebackers coach Keith Butler was named defensive coordinator. “I tell them, ‘You could put all your sacks together and you won’t have as many as me so you’re going to listen to me. You can put all your sacks together and I’d still have more than you, so why wouldn’t you listen to me when I’m trying to tell you how to get to the quarterback?’...........

I was thinking about that same thing. Can't tell you how often I laugh about it.

He better teach them soon. THe #'s say that the Steelers defense is absolutely atrocious when they can not generate a pass rush. From the article (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2015/2014-pressure-plays-defenses)

"On the other end of the spectrum, the dilapidated remains of Pittsburgh's secondary was the worst non-pressure defense in the league last year (69.7% DVOA). In fact, the Steelers were the worst non-pressure DVOA defense we've tracked since 2010, easily besting (worsting?) the 2013 Falcons (58.2%). The DVOA difference between the Steelers and 30th-place St. Louis was roughly equivalent to the difference between the Rams and the Dolphins, who had the 10th-best non-pressure DVOA defense. Unsurprisingly, Pittsburgh also experienced the greatest regression in non-pressure DVOA from 2013 (up 36.7%). The only saving grace is that the Steelers didn't have to face their own quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, whose incredible pressure performance would have made the whole game a cruel Catch-22."
