The real reason James Harrison was brought back by the Steelers wasn’t to be anybody’s ‘mentor,’ no matter how often that term has been tossed around by both Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert.
The real reason, based on everything I’ve been able to gather from these OTAs that ended Thursday on the South Side, is twofold:
1. The man can still play. We saw that in 2014. With all due concessions to his age — he turned 37 in May — his performance ranged from solid to the occasionally spectacular.
2. The man doesn’t just rush off the edge. He keeps everyone on the edge.
