Over the past 12 months, the Steelers handed out $44 million to Maurkice Pouncey and $30 million to Marcus Gilbert.

They also picked up the fifth-year option on David DeCastro that will pay him $8 million the final year of his rookie contract, which is typically a strong organizational indication that a lucrative long-term extension is imminent.

The Steelers used a considerable amount of draft picks over the past five years to retool their offensive line and even more money over the past year to ensure the unit will remain intact for the foreseeable future.

That future, however, might be only the next 16 games.

The left side of the offensive line — tackle Kelvin Beachum and guard Ramon Foster — are in the final year of their contracts and the players' future with the team is uncertain...............

I told you we can't pay everyone on the line $10 million. Foster can go for all I care, but then what are we gonna do?

On a related side note, lock up Munchak for as long as possible. He's the one guy on the coaching staff who I believe could make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

It also makes me a little mad that we wasted a lot of these guys' "cheap" years with complete chuckleheads for OL coaches (I still blame DeCastro wiping out Pouncey for a season on inept coaching more than anything else...Note to Bicknell: when you're trying to teach your line to cut block, or whatever the hell you try to do and pass off as coaching, you might want to mention that they should avoid rolling up their own teammates' legs ).

I also think that it was no coincidence that Munchak's first season with the team was the first time in years that the team didn't have to play musical chairs with the OL all season thanks to one injury after another.

Make Munchak the highest paid OL coach in the league if he isn't already, name him assistant head coach, whatever it takes to keep him long term. He's proved he's worth every penny. We've seen the alternatives (the E-mail Porn King, Bicknell the walking clusterf#ck, etc.) and their results, and I think it's safe to say we've had our fill of them.

Odd that NO draft pick was used considering it all.

Yes. If there's one guy on the entire coaching staff we need to keep as long as possible, he's it.
