Kevin Colbert got something off his chest at the Pittsburgh Steelers (http://pit.scout.com/)' pre-draft press conference this week, and it came off as odd for a guy who normally fares well with "elevator music," as his partner, Mike Tomlin, likes to say about worthless chatter.

"There’s so much misinformation," Colbert started, "and it’s really irresponsible on whoever puts information into the media. I think it’s really bad for our profession when people put whatever means they use to get information out to try to influence a draft and they talk about a kid’s test score, a kid’s injury, a kid’s character. I think that’s awful. I think it’s disrespectful to our profession. It’s disrespectful to the game. It’s disrespectful to the kid. I think it’s horrible. In knowing that we really don’t pay attention to it, we’re just going to be true to what we believe. We don’t believe in mock drafts and what people are saying about other teams because so much of it is misinformation. You just lose your mind trying to figure out what everyone’s going to do. We’ll just be true to what we do and feel good about it and live in it."

Huh?

Sounds like Colbert's worried about the PR of a player he's going to draft...........

* Bobby McCain, CB, Memphis -- Well, hello Mr. Excitement. The Steelers haven't shown McCain any interest, of which I'm aware, but I really like him. He'll not only fit the slot, he'll return kickoffs. And interceptions. Of his 12 picks in college he returned four for scores. Yes, replace McCain with McCain.

FIFTH ROUND

* Shaq Mason, G, Georgia Tech -- Won't be the five-position reserve that could be Max Garcia here, but the 6-1 3/4, 304-pound Mason could become a starter by 2016.

SIXTH ROUND

* Matt Jones, RB, Florida -- This might be the better spot to land a nickel back or guard, because with this pick the Steelers should be filling a bigger roster need at DE. But I can't find a DE to fit here, so that may have to be addressed in Rounds 4-5. But I like McCain and Mason too much.

SEVENTH ROUND

* A.J. Derby, TE, Arkansas -- The Steelers brought in several late-round tight ends, and not Derby. I just like this converted QB because he told me more about Heath Miller's move from QB to TE in college than Heath ever did. An athlete with upside.

Well...If you REALLLLLLLLLY like them....that's enough for me!!!!!!

Nooooo!!!!!!!!!

In 2002, the Steelers made it known that they liked Ed Reed... and, he got stolen away.

In 2007, the Steelers made it known that they liked Darrelle Revis... and, he got stolen away.

In 2008, the Steelers made it known that they liked Brandon Albert... and, he got stolen away.

In 2011, the Steelers made it known that they liked Mike Pouncey... and, he got stolen away.

Now, the Steelers made it known that they liked Marcus Peters...

Thar could very well be.

The head coach at Wake Forest is friends with Tomlin, and supposedly, Tomlin has been scouting KJ for the past two seasons.

I know, huh. I've got to start speaking in code. (I hear that Ozzie can't read anything written inside of parentheses.)

I'm so excited. The big day is here!!!

i confess I am a chump.

i wasn't so high on Kevin Johnson but now that some mocks have him going ahead of the Steelers pick - now I want him. One mock has us even passing on Trae Waynes - who was a player I drooled over in the beginning but now that the mock has him falling - I am like "meh"

yes, I am a sucker for all this "mis-information" being spread around

Personally, I have thought that Peters is the best CB in this draft. I also had Jones rated high before his injury. I don't get to excited over combine showings but what Jones did in the combine makes me think he is well on his way to a full recovery.

I have had a feeling for a while now that Peters would be our pick. We will soon see.

I still think it might be a good idea to trade back a little, then try to trade up in the second if there is someone there that has caught our eye. There has been a couple comments that make me think that we might pick both Peters and Collins if we had a chance, depending on how pass rushing players fall. Not likely, but may be a chance. Keep an eye on Tull.

Will be leaving for home soon, see you all on the draft thread.

I will be more than surprised if it isn't Marcus Peters or Kevin Johnson. You know...thats a nice problem to have.

Win/Win....I will be super excited either way.

So, when round 1 is over later tonight, if we do not have a CB or OLB drafted, how high will your level of disappointment be?

I really don't care which position we draft for first so long as they can contribute for the team day 1. If we draft a center that is such an upgrade it moves Pouncey over to guard, I'm ok with that.(A slight exaggeration). Many are saying this will be a bust if we draft any position other than CB or OLB. Some are saying it must be a defensive player or somebody should be fired. Just wondering what will be the mood tomorrow if we don't get a CB or OLB tonight.

I think it will be pretty shocking - everyone and their brother has us going in that direction

but even the "experts" picks are not much to go on

they are all about the same

We have graded the Round 1 mock drafts of Mel Kiper (ESPN), Todd McShay (ESPN), and Mike Mayock (NFL.com) for each of the past six years (2008-2013). Here are the results:

I will be pretty upset if it's anything other than a CB. Even if they take an OLB. They simply have ignored the CB position for FAR too long.

I'm with you X-T. It's just been too damn long.

I don't know why, but I've just got a bad feeling that we're going to pass on Peters and the Ratbirds are going to draft him. That'll really piss me off.

Personally, I have thought that Peters is the best CB in this draft.

Peters is a Top-10 talent and is the best CB in this draft.

the only ways the Steelers don't take him is because they didn't like his personal issues or he's no longer available at 1(22)...

Because we should've mortgage two or three draft picks to move up to get one of the first tier guys, right? Or, wasted this pick to get a second tier guy? Context is the key. My only caveat to that is I'd like to know if the Steelers were approached about trading picks.

It would be worth it to finally get a real good CB so the pass defense isn't ranked in the bottom 10 again. And it certainly is better than drafting someone who is raw and stiff with consistency issues who reportedly wears down as games go on
