The Steelers are expected to concentrate heavily on defense in the NFL draft, particularly in the early rounds. And most of the attention will center on two positions – cornerback and outside linebacker.

So who will be the first offensive player they draft? And when?

It is possible they will not draft an offensive player until the fourth round, and, if they do, that will likely be a wide receiver who can play in the slot. Remember, the two players who manned that position last season – Lance Moore and Justin Brown – are no longer with the team.

Markus Wheaton will line in the slot when the Steelers use three wide receivers this season, but they will try to add another receiver who can play there to keep Wheaton from getting beat up inside.

So, here are three receivers who could wind up with the Steelers and be the first offensive player they select in the draft:

I think they'd be more likely to draft a tackle or a tight end before a WR.

Well, my guess (my mock) was:
Clive Walford, TE, Miami in R3.

But, a LG in R1 or R2 would not surprise me at all (Cam Erving, FSU; Ali Harpet, Hobart).

I hope the steelers will not take a RB in the first 4 round

Bell is only out for 3 week ...yet some people think the Steelers need a RB

OT prospects at 22 is real possibility, trade down to late first then add Strong and Williams as more options.

Deangelo Williams is old, injury prone as hell, and lost many steps in his game. We still need a long term solution

Are there any other 125 lb scatbacks? That's my bet.

long term solution?

Bell is only out for 3 games...Williams can do the job for 3 weeks....It would be stupid to waste a early draft pick for only 3 games

Won't put a name down, but I think the first offensive player will be a OT or OG. Then again, I love the big uglies.

Go for it!

It's been almost 20 years since the Steelers had teh balls to make a blockbuster trade

Go Buckeyes!

Go up there and get Amari Cooper in the top 5

Ben says he can win all the games we need with another #1 WR.

Show AB who's boss!

trade up!

lol yes, a LONG TERM SOLUTION. for several seasons, not part of a season. Bell being out for 3 games doesnt change the fact that Williams is old, injury prone, and has been a so-so back for quite some time. Bell being out for 3 games doesnt change the fact that we still essentially have no proven back ups on the roster (we don't know which deangelo we're getting yet). Bell being out for 3 games doesn't mean we should avoid getting an effective running back who can give him a breather.

You originally said 1st 4 round. Wouldnt really consider the 4th round early, and I would prefer picks being spent elsewhere but dont see the harm in taking an RB starting in the mid-rounds if the value is strong

Tre McBride or Jeff Heuerman
