Congrats are in order for the Cambria County War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and the Decatur Civic Center in Decatur, Illinois — they’re the two finalists for this year’s Kraft Hockeyville contest.

War Memorial is perhaps best known as the home of the Johnstown Jets, the former minor-league team that inspired the iconic hockey movie “Slap Shot.” Over 70 players that’ve called War Memorial home have gone on to play in the NHL.

The Decatur Civic Center hosts both the “Tournament of Friends” — an annual event now in its 25th year — and the Decatur Flames youth hockey team; this year, the pee wee Flames won the Illinois state championship.

Johnstown matched up against Illinois city in Hockeyville final

Johnstown and Cambria County War Memorial Arena moved a huge step closer to the big prize on Saturday afternoon.

The War Memorial advanced to the final round of the Kraft Hockeyville USA contest and is guaranteed at least $75,000 in renovations for moving through the East region.

“How can you not like the Cambria County War Memorial? The home of the Hanson Brothers, Ogie Ogilthorpe,” NBC Sports analyst Jeremy Roenick said as part of the intermission report after the Hockeyville USA announcement during Saturday’s Stanley Cup playoff game. “I think they should bring back captain Reggie Dunlop and Denis Lemieux, and we’ll just have a big ol’ party out there in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.”

Johnstown will be matched against West region winner Decatur, Illinois, and the Civic Center. At stake is the grand prize of $150,000 in renovations and the opportunity to host a National Hockey League exhibition game.

Voting for the final round will begin at 12 a.m. on Monday and lasts through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday.

Individuals can vote up to 150 times per day – 50 times by texting “Cambria” to 35350; 50 times online at krafthockeyville.com (http://krafthockeyville.com/); and 50 times by calling toll free 1-855-255-5975.
