With the announcement of Troy Polamalu (http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2015/04/09/report-steelers-troy-polamalu-to-retire/)‘s retirementhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2015/04/10/dick-lebeau-on-troy-polamalu-the-best-safety-ive-ever-seen/#) from the NFL, there’s nobody better to hear from on Troy’s career than his former defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau.
LeBeau joined the Starkey and Mueller show to talk about his former player and told us why he thinks Troy’s the best safety to play the game.

“He had great acceleration, he could go from point A to point B like no one I’ve ever seen and he was over 200-pounds so that’s a very rare combination,” LeBeau said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anybody from the safety position that could close on the ball as fasthttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2015/04/10/dick-lebeau-on-troy-polamalu-the-best-safety-ive-ever-seen/#) as Troy Polamalu. When he got there, he had enough power to make something happen. He was a rare, rare player. The best safety I’ve ever seen.”...........

Can't get any better endorsement than that right there!

I'm going to predict right now, that if Troy is dissed on his first year of NOT getting in the HOF there WILL be a very large RIOT at the Induction ceremony that year !

You saw it here first ! Lol !

I never saw any player have the closing speed that Troy had in his prime and, It was a pleasure to watch him play.

I have to like his chances of getting in on the first ballot. He and Ed Reed will be eligible in 2019. I can't think of any other greats who retired this offseason.

There will also be a few leftovers who become eligible between now and then (retired 2010-2014) and will carry over onto that year's ballot. But the obvious ones like Favre will already be in Canton when Troy becomes eligible.

I still can't find that video in the 2005 AFCC game vs Denver that FS76 referred to in another thread. He was basically falling down sideways (think Marcus Gilbert taking out the whole OL :chuckle:) and then he still had enough balance and speed to make the tackle for a loss on the Broncos RB. Amazing play.

And there was talk on profootballtalk.com that it would be hard for Troy to be a first year HOFer. I find that quite laughable.
