One year after the Steelers set out to defend their Super Bowl title, they merely are trying to keep their heads above water. They will be without quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for at least the first four games, they unloaded Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, their aging defense could not hold late leads last season and their ground game lost Willie Parker.
Team president Art Rooney issued a mantra to the coaches as well: Become more consistent in the running game and develop young players more quickly.
“I do think that one of the things we have to do is probably get better at developing our younger players,” Rooney said. “That’s something we have to think about and make sure we’re doing what we need to do to have guys being able to step in maybe a little earlier. And over the next year or two, there’s no question we have some age on the defense and there’s going to be some turnover.”

I don't want to hear about the "Roethlisberger cloud" any longer - it's been beaten to death, back to life and to death again. It is what it is. One player does not make or break a team and good teams rise above adversity. We'll find out in just a few short weeks how "good" this team really is.

Yea but he's the franchise player!

Franchise schmanchise. He's ONE player and last I checked, it takes more than one player to win a football game, a playoff game and/or a Super Bowl. ;) :drink:
If you will remember - though he scored a goal line grabber in XL - he pretty much stunk up the stadium that day but some of the other guys came through in a big way and we brought home the Lombardi. I love him to pieces but there are 52 other guys who also contribute to a winning season and beyond.

^+1. Teams win games. Not players.

True true true...but we would not have gotten to the Super Bowl without him.

that article is old...written before training camp got started. No reason to even pay it any attention.

If this were an absence due to injury we would have much more to panic about as it is we have all pre-season to prepare for Ben's absence and we should be fine with whoever starts. Dixon didn't do to bad last year on hardly any notice against the ratbirds and Lefty showed he can hit Wallace on the fly.
I'm with HTG this blaming Ben has been old for months now and it's time for everyone to move on. Hopefully with Ben being out we find out that this team has the spirit and fortitude to overcome this adversity and if that happens will these same reporters who want to pile on Ben give him any credit for the teams success??? I doubt it but I really don't care as long as The Steelers are winning. Can't wait to get this season started and these media types off their high horses this off season has been WAY to long.
Go Steelers!!!

Ed Bouchette of all people should know better than to believe this drivel. We're losing Ben for 4 games but we'll be running Lefty and Dixon. We lost 'Tone, but we've got more outstanding WRs than we can keep. We lost Parker, but picked up Redzone. We're bringing younger folks onto the 1st string defense and we've got Troy back.
I wonder if this article is an attempted smoke screen...

Personally, I think he needs to go buy a blow-up doll to boink as it is obvious he has way too much time on his hands. :jerkit: The man is a Negative Ned with a capital N.

The only reason this so-called "cloud" is hanging over the Steeler's season is because whack-a-moles like this guy won't let s*** go!!
Come on Ed....really? What's the problem? Saw your deadline looming and decided to write another Ben-bashing peace to get something to the copy desk?
Yeah...real original. :ranger:

The "still" is at least a month old. While some points still have validity, others show some promise.
