PHOENIX — The Steelers addressed their needs at outside linebacker in free agency with the signings of James Harrison and Arthur Moats.
Their other glaring need — cornerback — will have to wait until after the draft.
General manager Kevin Colbert said on Sunday that's when the Steelers plan to address their need.
“That is a position that we would like to make some additions to,” Colbert said.
The Steelers are thin at the position, having only William Gay, Cortez Allen and Antwon Blake with experience on the roster. They kicked the tires on free agents Patrick Robinson and Sterling Moore but decided against signing either.
Colbert said it isn't typical for a rookie cornerback to immediately start, but it can happen.
“You usually don't go into it thinking you are drafting him to start,” Colbert said. “If they do and they are good, that's fine. If they aren't ready, that's more of the norm. We wouldn't just draft a guy because he's more ready to help us this year.”
The Steelers draft 22nd overall.
