Looks like James learned his lesson from the last round and so did the Steelers. Good news and may Jones & Shazier get off their a$$.

But. What would we all worry about then? Certainly not real life!

EXCELLENT! Great signing for the team both on the field and off IMO. The attitude of the locker room and the defense changed significantly in the positive direction after he was signed in 2014.

Maybe him talking about Tennessee forced their hand....like Keisel's trip to Arizona last year.

I bet his kids had a lot to do with this...if so thank you to Jame's family for keeping James a Steeler!!!

I love it. He's still got gas in the tank. I am not expecting the Harrison of his DPOY season. Hell, I am not expecting double digit sacks due to the fact that he's held every single play with no call. But just his attitude about the game helps this team.

Agree. I see him as a part time player. A guy that will make a couple big plays every few weeks. He'll hold his own out there, but the value to me is his attitude and leadership he brings to the defense...at this stage, that's more valuable IMO.

Agreed James Harrison brings more to the team than snaps played, the whole demeanor of the team and its mindset seemed to change the moment he walked into the building last year ...

I am in hopes that some of these younger guys take advantage of learning from James experience in terms of preparation not just in season but off season yes you play 16+ weeks but you prepare 45+ weeks a year to do your job at the highest possible level physically and mentally ...

I think he probably wanted to retire a Steeler. A 2 year contract just could make that happen. Glad to see James coming back.

Woo hoo! Great news. I am glad my guess on him leaving for the Titans was wrong.

But I was right about him receiving a 2-year deal : )

It might also mean the Steelers will focus more on the secondary in the first round. Is there anyone even worth the 22nd pick at CB or S?

Phew! I was getting nervous about that.

Dude from Alabama, I forget his name right now and am too lazy to look up, would be good at S if he's there. Rather have a CB. Whoever's the best CB available will likely be worth the 22nd pick for us, even if he wouldn't theoretically be worth the 22nd pick to most teams.

Yeah I hear ya, but I don't want to BPA a CB if he isn't worth the 22nd pick. If anything trade down if nothing of worth is there.

Collins is his name. My concern is his speed. The Steelers don't have a lot of speed in the secondary. Perhaps he plays faster in pads than most. One thing is for certain, he is a big dude at SS.

There really hasn't been a group of outstanding CBs in the draft for quite awhile.

Well, what I don't want to do is BPA someone because the best corner left is a "mid second-round guy," then when our second pick rolls around, BPA someone else because the best corner left is a "third-round guy," and before you know it we've gotten to round 4 and we have an offensive tackle, a tight end, and a DE/OLB conversion project with holes in his game.

We've taken the "BPA" (and I use that term generously) at the expense of this position for a decade, and it's gotten to a critical point that is breaking the defense. You can take a slightly "better value" player and the equation goes something like this:

Improved LB play: +1
Improved OL play: +3
Improved backup TE: +1
Serious flaw at CB: -50

Our problems don't go away until that goes away. I would take the best CB available unless he really just plain sucks.

Trading down in that case would always be the smart move instead of wasting the value, but it's not always that easy and we don't tend to do it very much. In fact, I can't remember when we've ever done it. (edit: turns out 2001, three spots from 16 to 19 when we took Casey Hampton). People talk and talk and talk about that every year, but I just don't see it happening unless there's a super-rare convergence of fate.
