In the four decades that have passed since the glory days of the 1970s, there has never been any comparison to the front four of the famed Steel Curtain defense. And there likely never will be.

There haven’t even been comparisons to the 3-4 front of Aaron Smith, Casey Hampton and Brett Keisel that helped shut down running backs in 2008 and 2010.

But the Steelers think they might have a pretty good three-man line heading into the 2015 season with defensive ends Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt and nose tackle Steve McLendon.

Problem is, they don’t have much behind them...........

My worry about the d line is so far down the list from other concerns on that side of the ball.

Currently, assuming Polamalu retires, the Steelers are one injury away from trotting out Ventrone or Golden as a starting safety. BW Webb is in line for major snaps at dime/reserve corner. Allen and Gay are the starters with Blake as the nickel.

There is zero depth at the outside linebacker position. No one is really sure who is going to play and in what combination next to Timmons.

But, yeah. We should all worry about a position group manned by two high draft picks, a solid NT when healthy, a man who blots out the damn sun and during the Ravens game proved to be basically an immovable object against the run. We should worry because the main back-up stinks. We get it. Cam Thomas is bad at football. Or at least not as good as his size leads you to think he should be. Obviously, there is no way to improve on this situation prior to the start of the season.

Oh. Wait. The earth-shattering conclusion is that the Steelers may even be able to improve on the youngest and most potential laden position group on defense by continuing their trend of adding young potential laden players to it? Shocking. Damn fine reporting.

A better use of the space provided to this dipshit would be to analyze what he thinks (with his supposed insider access and all his contacts, etc) the plan is for the secondary and the linebacker grouping. When Bleacher Report consistently posts more interesting and detailed analyses of the potential off-season moves of your team than the local newspaper guys it isn't hard to see why no one reads the paper anymore.
