Former Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams is signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Good move for both.

We signed the 2015 Williams, not the 2009 Williams. Question #1, does he smoke pot?

So if Bell goes down the Steelers have a RB that will join him on the injury list.

I am still waiting to see who they are going to sign as starting OLBs.

I don't hate it but I don't love it either. I'd rather see a capable, younger HB who's been healthier.

Williams was pretty good at one time but I think that those days might be past.

They say Jonathan Stewart "left him in the dust last year" . It only took him 7 seasons..

This made me like him more, actually.

It makes sense to get a veteran guy, and to get him well before camp and even draft, so we not only have time to plan around him, but he has time to learn our system. And, I think he's the kind of player who can thrive in a support role.

The thing I'm worried about are those 2-4 games he's going to have to start. IMO, that's not a good use for him and it's too much of an injury risk for a guy who's already an injury risk. We need another RB, whether it's Harris or a draft pick or another veteran, to effectively be the "starter" even when Bell isn't starting, and let Williams be the "support role" guy for that guy too. That will be ideal. In fact if that's actually the plan, that Harris (not Williams) is the starter while Bell is out, and Williams will be providing support, whether it's to Harris or Bell... well that makes me very okay with this signing.

Mike Tomlin is not a big man ... but he looks huge by D. W . ....

I would like to see Dri Archer standing next to him bet is close size wise ....

could you imagine Big Dan standing next to him ????????????????????????

But unlike Archer, Williams has actually produced at the NFL level...

Perfect signing - assuming Williams stays healthy. Another aspect of the signing is that Williams provides a veteran presence in the RB meeting room. Could be invaluable for the continued development of Bell, Archer, and even Harris.

Agreed…..and I like this attitude.

Have you had any discussions with the coaching staff about what your role could be this season?
No, but I want to come in and help them be productive on offense. Whether that means me coming off the bench, giving the offensive line water, making sure Ben Roethlisbergerhttp://www.steelers.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/ben-roethlisberger/54dda34e-9e43-4c57-9397-1143ddced5d6/)’s towel is dry so he can wipe his hands and throw the ball better – whatever it takes for us to win a Super Bowl, I’m willing and able to do it.

and has gotten many chances to do so in the ( majority of ) a decade not a rookie season with just 10 rushing attempts ( 40 yards ) and 7 catches ....

Archer can succeed in this league , it just might not be in Pittsburgh ( can't use a 165 pound RB between the tackles esp when his best attribute is lightning fast straight line speed )

Remember...he's a back up running back...not the starter. They could've done way worse that Williams. I don't mind this signing. Yes, I'd rather had seen a few others before Williams, but now, it's not terrible. I like this better than I liked the Blount one at that time.

I completely agree. The fact that he is going to ride the bench most of the time actually may play in our favor in that it'll give his body a chance to recover from the constant pounding/injury/recovery cycle he's been in. Break that cycle and let the body really recover, he might be finding his second wind career-wise just about the time we really need him to step up.

They should sign him to a lifetime contract for those jammies. Nicely done, DeAngelo!

This.

We don't need him to carry it 600 times and gain 8,000 yards next year. He can be a backup and maybe a role player like MeMo was and also mentor Harris and Archer

Now, we need to address the secondary and OLBs.

So far, I like his attitude. Which puts him way higher on the scale than the last back up we had Who Shall Not Be Named.

for sure , could not ask for more from his words ... hopefully his actions follow suit ( not saying they won't just hard to find that much humility in today's NFL )
