Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Mike Adams filed a civil lawsuit Wednesday against the three men who were acquitted of attacking him on the South Side last year.

Adams, 24, filed the lawsuit in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas alleging that Jerrell Whitlock, Dquay Means and Michael Paranay, all of Hazelwood, assaulted him and inflicted emotional distress when they attacked him outside Cambod-Ican Kitchen along East Carson Street on June 1, 2013.

A jury on April 30 acquitted Whitlock and Means of the most serious charges they faced in connection with the incident. The jury acquitted Paranay of all charges.

In the year since the verdict, both Paranay and Means filed civil lawsuits against Adams, claiming his statements to police caused them to be wrongfully prosecuted.

“In my opinion, this (lawsuit) is their way to defend against the civil claims we have out there against their client,” said Means' lawyer, Monte Rabner.

Adams could not be reached.
