Thumbs up to the Olsavsky promotion. Skeptical about the Porter promotion, but the staff must have seen something they like. I just think he's too green in the coaching field to be going up the ranks already but these are interesting promotions to say the least.

Anyone know if other teams around the league have separate coaches for OLB/ILB?

I agree.

IMO, Porter is more of a cheerleader than a coach.

Why do you say that? Have you seen him coaching during practice?

I agree.

IMO, Porter is more of a cheerleader than a coach.

All the available evidence points to the opposite. He worked with the University of Colorado, and the two OLB'ers there put up some pretty nice numbers. While none of the Steelers OLBers exactly jumped off the page, there were multiple reports during the off-season, pre-season, and in season that Jones, Moats, other Jones, and even Worilds felt that Porter was really helping them with their pass rush efforts.

I'm sure he is basically a cheerleader on game day due to his more than likely lack of involvement in strategy and gameplanning. But by all available accounts he is a solid coach and teacher on the practice field.

Kevin Greene had the same position in GB for several years. Did the same things as Porter on gameday - cheered and jumped around like a hyperactive four year old. It isn't like they are grooming him to become the next DC.

Sometimes the pessimism around these parts is a bit to thick.

I like a guy who shows that amount of passion for the game as long as he is coaching his players up to be better, which is what he has shown to be capable of too. Plus, remember who approached Bitchmode Blount when he quit on the Steelers? It was Porter
