Pretty classless to do to one of the great NFL stalwarts

To be fair, the guy didn't know it was Rooney.

when he was asked who the gentleman from Pittsburgh was that he had just ordered out, he was told he was the owner of the Steelers, a Hall of Famer and Ambassador to Ireland

Just one of those - any one - would be enough for the guy to feel like crap. They could have added that his father was good friends with the founder of the Giants - good enough friends that his brother was named after him.

... but he probably feels bad enough already. ;)

If I was Rooney I would have called Ike up and had him beat the shit out of that punk, but that's just me.

True, but he should have immediately sought out Mr. Rooney, apologized profusely and escorted him personally back to the Press Box. Obviously, this pickle head doesn't watch much football, as EVERYONE knows who Dan Rooney is!

Hmm... even though the man was doing his job, it was still very classy for Mr. Rooney to leave without causing a scene.

Apparently Mr. Rooney forgot to wear his "DTF" sticker.

Once again, the Steelers prevail with class. Mr. Rooney didn't stomp or fuss, he just left. What a great statement that was.

Exactly. To be honest, I would have NO IDEA who any of the owners except Al Davis, Rooney, and the idiot from Dallas were. I couldn't pick them out of a lineup because I really don't care. I would imagine, that this guy feels the same way about Rooney-and as such, I have no animosity towards the guy at all.

That being said, it DOES show how classy Rooney is that he simply went back to his seat, instead of pulling the "do you know who I am" card out.

That was my thoughts exactly.

"Oops". hahah

That's even better than the "Do you know who I am" routine; simply leaving and letting someone else ask "Do you know who that was ?"

I completely agree. The guy was just doing his job. Had he just let some random old dude in there he would have been fired. I am happy to see Mr. Rooney stay classy during the whole ordeal.

In the poor guys defense, he did not recognise Mr Rooney because he was not holding up one of our Lombardi Trophies. :)

So true Preacher, I hate when the ole' "do you know I am ?" card is played. I think the only people that play that card are those who have doubts as to wether they really are as great as they think they are.

I agree with GoSlash---
"Do you know who that was?" is always better than, "Do you know who I am?"

You can't really blame the guy for doing his job...
and, as has been pointed out, Mr. Rooney really doesn't need to beat his chest.
He's Dan Rooney. And that's enough.

The man is timeless,he did not raise a fuss,or try to go against authority.what more can you ask for. No "thou art better than thee" whatsoever. Gotta love the image he percieves the STEELERS to be! I say, YOU GO BOY !!!!!

What kind of media person who handles NFL stories don't know Mr. Rooney. It's almost like not knowing who is the President of his country.

IIRC, it was one of the ushers that chased him out.
