With the NFL free agency period right around the corner in March, most of Steeler Nation is curious as to what moves the team will make.

Throughout history, the Steelers haven’t been big players in free agency. However, when they do venture into the market to fill a specific need, their track record is pretty good. While Pittsburgh will most likely once again focus more on the draft than free agency, it is still worth noting that they have brought in several players over the years that made significant contributions. Let’s take a look at the 10 best free agent acquisitions in Steelers history.........

The fact Burnt Alexander , MeMo , Over Gandy and Pegram does 2 things for me ...

1) author loses credibility

2) proves we hardly ever spend money on outside guys and when we do most are low key pickups

MeMo is understandable in that, the author is arguing without him, the Steelers don't get to the playoffs and SB since Willie P. was injured throughout that year. Alexander . . . meh. All in all, not a bad list.

Wasn't James Harrison a free agent?

Harrison was an undrafted rookie the first time the Steelers signed him. Then signed with Ravens and then signed with the Steelers...so you could say he was a free agent IMO.

Mewelde Moore might be a little stronger choice than John L. Williams. Also Eric Peagram had a really good couple years for the Steelers.

Another couple of close calls would be Duvall Love and Will Wolford.

And I guess technically Gary Anderson was a free agent signing. Though I don't think he took a regular season kick before putting on a Steeler uniform. So I exclude him from consideration.

DeWayne Washington, Brent Alexander? Lmao! Give me a break! Might as well put Tim McKyer on the list. :puke:

Had he stayed healthy he could have been top 5. As influential as Ben was to the 2004 season, Duce was just as much early on. The early momentum that Duce helped establish catapulted that team back to the forefront of the league

Dewayne Washington is laughable on this list.

This remind me that the Steelers do free agency right. Only go after a few guys, sometimes high key sometimes low key and build the rest of the team through the draft

Isn't it funny that Kimo came from the Bengals? I would say tell a Bengals fan that, but I am sure most of them are bandwagon fans who weren't following the team before 2005 or 2009
