PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The scenario: Franco Harris shows up at an “Immaculate Reception” by jumping out of a wedding cake. But it’s really part of a Super Bowl ad for a website building company.
“The cake was right here, and then they had the bride and groom come over,” says Andrew Hutchinson, general manager of the Twentieth Century Club in Oakland. He indicates the area where a portion of the commercial was taped.
“Our understanding was Franco was getting into the wedding business, and for a fee he could show up at your wedding and cut the cake with you, pose for photos,” said Hutchinson. “And that was sort of the premise of the Immaculate Reception, as we were told the idea. And it wasn’t until, obviously, the news report came out later in the shooting that we got the idea that it was a little bit more.”
