With Coach LeBeau's resignation, and Butler quite possibly being his replacement, where does that leave Joey Porter? Will he remain an assistant coach, or could he possibly take over Butler's position as the linebackers coach?

If Butler gets promoted, I'd love to see Peezy get promoted as well

Have to go on merit not on emotion. Can we honestly say the LB Corp was better, worse or the same though the year? If Harrison does not come out of retirement, we may not have made the playoffs.

Porter might be a raw coach.

Stays as defensive assistant. Needs more time before he becomes a position coach. This was his second year as a coach.

I don't see what Porter did. Jones looked the exactly the same, as did every other LB. Harrison saved the defense and that had nothing to do with Porter.

IMO, Porter was just a mouth. I doubt he offered much in terms of coaching. Another poor coaching/buddy acquisition by Tomlin?

Seeing how it was Tomlin who shipped Porter out of the Burgh to begin with, not sure how they were "buddies"...

I don't think Porter was asked to work with the players in that kind of capacity. Just not sure his position allowed him to do too much

Wasn't his contract up? He should have been benched or shipped out earlier.

They cut him because he was a cap casualty

Give him the linebackers job after Butler leaves or becomes DC. Remember the game in 06 against the Chiefs when James started and Porter pretty much coached him the whole game?

It had more to do with him lipping off the entire 2006 season about not being happy with his paycheck and threatening a holdout in 2007, which was Tomlin's first season. On top of that he was the quintessential "Cowher guy."

No. How do you know Porter coached him at all? Most of Harrison's game, if not all, is brute strength and an unrelenting motor.

Peezy was really just here because of Coach Dad. Without LeBeau around, where's his motivation?

The FO screwed the pooch on this one. Dick LeBeau deserves a whole lot more than the sendoff he got here, and there's going to be a lot of unhappy defensive players next season.

How do you know he didn't?

Yeah those 32 sacks he had in the three years after he left the Steelers, really sucked!

I would think that Jerry Olsavsky will become the LB coach before Porter. Jerry has been helping with the LBers for years now.

Porter is OLB coach. Olsavsky is ILB coach.

Jerry Olsavsky has been promoted to inside linebackers coach and Joey Porter has been promoted to outside linebackers coach, the team announced today.
