Well I'm glad somebody actually took the time to figure this out. Leading the league in pass interference yardage 4 out of the past 5 years, and second by 7 yards in 2012. Ridiculous and cheap.

One part that was really right on the money .. how many times have we seen Torrey Smith run a go route, then Flacco underthrows him, so Smith comes back for the ball and causes an unavoidable collision with the DB ... yup, 45-yard pass interference, bank it.

They really need to change the pass interference rule to be more like the college one, where it caps out at a maximum of 15 yards. Giving them half the field or a free touchdown is bullshit. Almost as ludicrous as assuming the receiver would've actually caught the majority of these 50-yard moonballs.

only issue I would have with capping the penalty yardage is defender would tackle the WR with ball in air if beaten for a long gainer or sure TD .... not possible to make the rules perfect when humans are involved ..

build the perfect mouse trap and someone will come along and build a better mouse

What's the problem? The Ravens found a "loop hole." Good for them...Steelers should be doing it with Bryant.

Steelers did not get the same call in the same game on Saturday.

People always say that, but it would never happen. 15 yards and an automatic first down is not something that a defender is going to take voluntarily. If any proof is needed, how often do you see college defenders deliberately taking pass interference penalties? Almost never.

Things move too fast for you to go through that cost-benefit assessment and act on it in a split second. If they're close enough to tackle the WR, they're probably close enough that they think they can make a play on the ball. Maybe if there are 10 seconds left in the game you'd intentionally mug the receiver, but it's easy enough to make a rule about that too.

Anyway, as long as guys are out there making plays like this, I seriously doubt that they have time to think through the rulebook before they make a move.

Wonder if Belicheat planted this story so that the refs will think twice before throwing out the flag.

Of course Harbaugh "gets it".
