Gee, I wonder if the league could, would they do a Do Over for putting the Steelers game Saturday
night ? Also I may be wrong on this but, I seem to remember that going into the Steelers/Bengals game that if Cincy would have won, then they would have hosted Baltimore on Sunday, but if we won, we hosted the Ravens Saturday night ?....why ? Cause as of right now, and I know how things weather can change. But right now Saturday calls for precipitation in the 80 % area. And that Rain and Snow will be coming down all evening, starting around 4 to 5PM. Which means they can't really cover it cause that's the time they have to prepare the field. And the Temp is supposed to be in the Mid to low 30's when the game starts, and even colder in the 2nd half.

And our field as we all know can get really really bad when it gets rainy and snowy and sludgy out there. This is just another reason why I think Bell should just sit out. Cause on those field conditions, it could be really easy for Bell to further aggravate his injury. But regardless, I wonder if the league would prefer to have the Indy/Cincy game Saturday night...I mean it's in a Dome anyways. And the Steelers game Sunday...where the weather calls for slightly cloudy skies, and around 10 degrees warmer with zero chance of any Rain or snow.

Also, I wonder how these conditions effect us and the Ravens Offense & Defense. I gotta feel since our guys know our field better then anyone else that we will have a distinct advantage out there. But I guess we will see. The one thing that does concern me is that in the colder weather at home with those field conditions, how will our kick-offs go ? I mean in Ideal conditions our kicker barely reaches the goal line. I don't wanna see Jacoby Jones getting the ball with a running start around the 10 yard line. Lets hope the ST coaches come up with a plan to contain that.

I get your point. Having said that, it's football. Enough of domes and "perfect" conditions. Rain? Snow? Love games in less than ideal conditions.

Gotta agree. Not a big dome fan. Football is an outdoor weather sport, equal for both teams. Makes the player's adjust. Wind, rain, snow, ice, sun, fog, dry conditions, whatever. Sometimes brings that 'elite' QB back to reality. As Stillers4me said, "bring it" !

Football weather, for sure...... And I think that it is to our advantage..... B'more does not get quite as blustery as Pittsburgh, usually, but in the past couple of years their weather is every bit as blustery as the 'Burgh.... I like to thing that a bit of bluster will be better for us than them..... And the fact that they hate night games in Pittsburgh anyway, has to be in the back of their minds, and that helps, too.....

We can do this..... I am cautiously optimistic..... It won't be easy, but I think we will be fine - - bring it on!!!!!

Good grief. Typically it's cold, icy and snowing in January in western Pennsylvania. That's nothing new. We've had higher temperatures in December than we had in November.

Currently weather.com is calling for a 90% chance of rain on Saturday night in Pittsburgh with a temp of 38 degrees. That's a freakin' heat wave for us this time of year.

Speaking of which, I kinda laughed during the game the other night when they showed him going to the locker room.

At least he didn't "let it go" like Schlereth used to. :chuckle:

charlie Batch pasted the other day this season was the first he could remember where weather was not an issue for a game. Playoffs? Baltimore/Pittsburgh? It has to be cold and snowy.

I may have spent too many years out here in Iowegia, but mid-to-low 30s ain't "cold". That's downright pleasant for early January.

The high 30's isn't the issue. It's the massive rainfall that the entire game will be played in that is the issue.

Agreed. If it's bad enough, the passing game won't be a factor on either side.

I wonder if Goodell will cancel the game...move it to Monday ? Then of course if we win, he will give us the early Saturday game. And if Baltimore wins....well Hell, he might just give them an extra week off to rest.

A sloppy field normally gives an edge to the offense. Making cuts you know you are going to take is easier than trying to cut after someone...especially a fast someone. If the field starts off in bad shape due to heavy rain, I would hope the defense plays right off the WR and gives them no room for a fast start. Make them get a slipping start at the line and it should disrupt the passing game. It should also help the D line, as it is easier to go forward than being pushed backwards on a slippery field.

Of course, that applies to the Steelers defense, too. Especially against two rookies on the Ravens O line.

Not to put a Gloom on things but as of right now, tomorrow calls for " Ice pellets "...or freezing rain. Well this below is from a definition of " Ice Pellets "

Ice pellets are a form of precipitation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precipitation_(meteorology)) consisting of small, translucent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Translucent) balls of ice. Ice pellets are smaller thanhailstones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hail)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_pellets#cite_note-1) which form in thunderstorms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderstorm) rather than in winter, and are different from graupel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graupel) ("soft hail") which is made of frosty white rime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_rime), and from a mixture of rain and snow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_and_snow_mixed) which is a slushy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slush) liquid or semisolid. Ice pellets often bounce when they hit the ground or other solid objects, and make a higher-pitched "tap" when striking objects likejackets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacket), windshields (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windshield), and dried leaves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leaf_litter), compared to the dull splat of liquid raindrops. Pellets generally do not freeze into a solid mass unless mixed with freezing rain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freezing_rain). TheMETAR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/METAR) code for ice pellets is PL (PE before November

Also.......

A storm that produces a significant thickness of glaze ice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaze_ice)from freezing rain is often referred to as an ice storm (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_storm). Freezing rain is notorious for causing travel problems on roadways, breaking tree limbs, and downing power lines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_line). It is also known for being extremely dangerous to aircraft since the ice can effectively 'remould' the shape of theairfoil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airfoil) and flight control surfaces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_control_surfaces)

They say Pellets are a result of Thunderstorms....will there be Thunderstorms on Saturday ? Cause I only saw Rain forcasts. If there is Thunder, there usually is Lightning...right ? I wonder if the game gets delayed in any
way ? Also, Pellets are known to cause Power lines to go down. I wonder if they will have electrical problems as well ?

Is anyone living in Pittsburgh that is here ? Can they clarify what is being said about all this ? Man, what a bummer if this game gets delayed, or even worse...CANCELLED.

Just checked the theweatherchannel.com and theweathernetwork.com

Ice pellets would only be in the morning hours of Saturday. High is expected to be 44-46 degrees F.

The way most weather forecasts go, it probably won't even be raining through the whole game.

Thanks. I figured it would be in the early morning, then til the afternoon time. Still, will that freezing Ice cause any probelms that could effect the game later on ?...Travel, power outages...drainage issues ?

I find most of the time when they are calling for freezing rain, it is to get everyone on high alert and drive extra careful. With the temperatures not going too much below freezing and then rising rather quickly to be in the 40's by the afternoon, I don't expect too much disruption.

Probably will be pretty safe at around 10am.

Looks like by kickoff it will be rising temps throughout past midnight. So it won't be freezing rain or snow, but still patchy if not steady rainfall with 10-15 MPH wind. Ew.

Freezing rain until this afternoon, then climbing temps throughout the game.
Should be clear but soggy for the first half, with a chance of rain during the second half.
Wind gusts up to 25Mph throughout.

The first half looks to be favorable to the passing game (or as favorable as it's gonna get). We don't want to be behind at halftime.
