I'm not too confident with my 53 man because I want to see how these position battles play out.

Some shake ups I could see happening in the next two weeks:

* Dwayne Wright makes the team over Frank Summers

* Stefan Logan over Arnaz Battle

* Sean McHough/David Johnson over Matt Spaeth

* Justin Hartwig Cut

*Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith over Ryan Mundy

As of now, heres who I've got

QB (3): Ben Roethlisberger, Dennis Dixon, Byron Leftwhich

HB (3): Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, Isaac Redman

FB (1): Frank Summers

WR (6): Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Antwan Randel El, Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown, Arnaz Battle

TE (3): Heath Miller, Matt Spaeth, David Johnson

OL (9): Max Starks, Chris Kemoeatu, Maurkice Pouncey, Ramone Foster, Flozell Adams, Trai Essex, Justin Hartwig, Tony Hills, Doug Legursky

DE (4): Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, Ziggy Hood, Sonny Harris

DT (2): Casey Hampton, Chris Hoke

OLB (4): James Harrison, LaMarr Woodley, Thaddeus Gibson, Jason Worilds

ILB (5): James Farrior, Lawrence Timmons, Keyaron Fox, Larry Foote, Stevenson Sylvestor

CB (6): Ike Taylor, Bryant McFadden, William Gay, Kennan Lewis, Joe Burnett, Crezdon Butler

S (4): Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Will Allen, Ryan Mundy

ST (3): Jeff Reed, Dan Sepulveda, Greg Warren

Practice Squad: Jon Dwyer, Chris Scott, Tyler Grisham, Kraig Urbik, Doug Worthington, Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith, Kyle Jolly, Justin Thorton

Offensive line is the biggest question mark for me. I believe the final two or three spots are up for grabs between a number of guys. Urbik, Jon Scott, Hills, Legursky and Adrian Jones are all guys I see fighting for one of the last spots.

Me neither - but HTG promised me a free T-shirt if I win - it's a contest, closest to final roster wins.

Me too - but that's the fun of it.

Oh. Its a contest. Then I would like to reserve the right to edit my roster up until the day of final cuts. :chuckle:

Any ol hilljack can wait till the last cut. WE are the only ones with the balls (or even know who the players are) to compete so far.

p.s. I think 2nd place runner-up should get a t-shirt too.

I'm makin' this up as I go along - it might catch on

Ever see the movie, "I think I love my Wife"?

If the 53 was made into a movie, it'd be called "I think I hate my roster". Tough decision after tough decision. I could expend the roster to 70 and still agonize over leaving player's off.

What is this fascination with Sonny Harris? He was in my first cut.

Why keep 6 Receivers when last year they had 5 and want to be more run oriented this year?

3 TE's Miller, Spaeth, Johnson

Lots of upper body strength who can play the run and collapse the pocket. I like him.

Because we didn't have this kind of depth last year.

Who are you cutting out of that group?

Battle loses this one.

After paying him a cool million in signing bonuses (as Tony pointed out)? He got more than El.

Cutting Hartwig and Batch should cover that

Ugh god....if Dwyer doesnt make the roster now he's as good as gone. He can be so much....If he doesnt pan out, Redman better be one major Hellraiser, not just in the redzone, but i mean a complete player!

Battle loses this one.

Could be. Vincent or that other guy could be an extra RB instead. But he wouldn't suit up on Sundays.

5 wide!

Ben will be back and he want's big plays and that means more WR's.

Here's my shot at the final 53:

QB (3)

Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich, Dennis Dixon

RB (3)

Rashard Mendenhall, Mewelde Moore, Issac Redman

FB (1)

Frank Summers (Although I like Dwayne Wright)

WR (6)

Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Antwaan Randle El, Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown, Arnaz Battle

TE (3)

Heath Miller, Matt Spaeth, David Johnson

OL (9)

Max Starks, Chris Kemoeatu, Maurkice Pouncey, Ramon Foster, Trai Essex, Flozell Adams, Justin Hartwig, Tony Hills, Doug Legursky

DL (6)

Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, Ziggy Hood, Casey Hampton, Chris Hoke, Sonny Harris

LB (9)

CB/S (10)

Ike Taylor, Bryant McFadden, William Gay, Kennan Lewis, Joe Burnett, Crezdon Butler, Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Will Allen, Ryan Mundy

ST (3)

Jeff Reed, Daniel Sepulevda, Greg Warren

Some thoughts:

I think we cut Batch. It may be a little risky to enter the season with only two active quarterbacks, but Leftwich and Dixon both can start. And if we get into a pinch in-game, well, that's what our improved running attack is for, right? :chuckle:

Is Frank Summers a lock? I liked what I've seen from Dwayne Wright. I hope Dwyer makes it to the PS, I'd like to see what a year could do for him.

As much as I love what Logan has done for us, with the emergence of Brown, I don't think he makes the cut. And Battle has had a good camp and preseason. Lotta competition at receiver this year. Tough decisions.

Johnson makes it over McHugh.

O-Line seems like it won't be solidified til the last moment. At this point, I'd be inclined to start Pouncey. Not sold on Adams, especially if Leftwich starts the season. Mauler in the run game, but has flat sucked at pass protection so far. Who starts at RG if Pouncey starts at C? What happens to Hartwig? Quite a few questions that will hopefully be answered soon. I do think Hills sticks this year though. Much improved.

Everyone seems set on Sunny Harris, but don't count Eason out for making the cut instead.

Gibson and Sylvester are probably on the fringe, but I doubt either would make it to the practice squad. Sylvester can contribute to the ST. Reynauld Williams has made some nice plays, and hopefully sticks to the PS.

Here's a question, do we need Madison on ST and do we carry 7 CB's to keep him?

Does Mundy make it over Cromartie-Smith?

I wonder if Warren has been hurting. Signing Matt Stewart seems to point to that. I'd hate to see Warren get another bad break.

Forgot to mention that on my roster, I'm cutting Charlie Batch before Week 1 and signing him for Week 2 so his 855K salary isn't guaranteed and we just have to pay him a couple of game checks.

I can't see us having just two QBs for the first four-six weeks. Too risky. The only team I can think of that only had two QBs on their roster last year was the Patriots.

Yes, having just 2 active quarterbacks on the roster is extremely risky...especially when one of those 2 qb's is Byron Leftwich!

Steelers wouldnt do that to Batch, not in an uncapped year.

I know that it's not ethically right. It's a jerk move, no doubt about that. But if I think Batch is for it, I'm doing it.

It'd be solely upto Batch. I dont see Rooney or Colbert doing that. If anything that 805k is a nice pat on the butt and a thank you for everything he's done (including off the field in Pittsburgh which you know means alot to the Rooney family)

Welcome to the site, by the way.

Thanks. Figured i'd give it a shot since scout.com payside can be crickets at times and other Steeler forums are filled with sheep who believe the team can do no wrong. :)

That's pretty close to mine - but I think Butler goes to the P.S. and we get rid of all the H backs....and of course, no Sonny Harris.

Similar to Killers

QB - Ben Roethlisberger, Dennis Dixon, Byron Leftwich - don't think we keep Charlie for just four games.

WR - Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Antwan Randle El, E. Sanders, Antonio Brown, Arnaz Battle - We can keep 6 if we cut Logan

RB - Rashard Mendenhall, Isaac Redman, Mewelde Moore, Frank Summers - although Worthington could take this.

TE - Heath Miller, Matt Spaeth, David Johnson - Johnson gets nod over McHugh, Like him or not Spaeth is the second best receiving TE on the team.

OL Max Starks, Chris Kemoeatu, Maurkice Pouncey, Ramone Foster, Flozell Adams, Trai Essex, Justin Hartwig, Johnathon Scott, Doug Legursky - If Hartwig is a surprise cut then Hills makes the team, but I think the Steelers will keep Hartwig even if he loses his starting job.

LB - James Harrison, James Farrior, Lawrence Timmons, LaMarr Woodley, Keyaron Fox, Larry Foote, Thad Gibson, Sylvester Stevenson, Jason Worilds. Bailey is good Special Teamer, but the young talent is too good to pass up.

S - Troy Polamalu, Ryan Clark, Will Allen, Ryan Mundy

CB - Ike Taylor, William Gay, Anthony Madison, Keenan Lewis, Joe Burnett, Bryant McFadden

DL - Travis Kirschke ;) joking - Casey Hampton, Chris Hoke, Aaron Smith, Brett Keisel, Ziggy Hood, Nick Eason - we cut Sonny Harris last year and I don't see a big improvment. Eason was pretty solid last year.

The Special Boys: Jeff Reed, Dan Sepulveda, Greg Warren,

So
QB 3
WR 6
RB 4
TE 3
OL 9
LB 9
S 4
CB 6
DL 6

I hate to see us cut Logan He did well last season. Still, all the can do is return. We will have one spot for 4 weeks. It's possible they will keep Charlie on. Still, I think it might go to one of the young guys who could then be put on the PS.

Legursky is the best FB we got, that's why I cut the extra H backs. Him and Frank the Tank can cover that hole.
I keep Logan on ST, just in case our rookie gets the fumble fingers, + his little legs churning gets the juices flowing.
