Post Gazette columnist Ron Cook recently got the ear of Steelers (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/pittsburgh-steelers) quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1630/ben-roethlisberger) in regards to the team's MVP vote - which is expected to come today, and has become perhaps the most anticipated team MVP announcement in a long time.
It shouldn't be any more intriguing for Roethlisberger, who's one of several worthy candidates on this year's team. It's the same thing every year, according to Ben. As he told Cook, "I vote for Heath Miller (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/1620/heath-miller) every year."............

Oh yeah, go with the white guy! Ben's racist! :heh: Sorry, but if this wasn't sports and was "real life" you know that drum would have to be banged by some idiot. Or in this case me. But only in a joking way. :wink02:

Heath is not fast or overly athletic.

His stats are also often "average" for a starting TE.

Still, to me he is the perfect example of a player is very valuable because they put 100% into being the best they can be at EVERY aspect of their game.

He is a true team player and does his talking on the field.

On defense I feel like this about Timmons as well.

One of the reasons I often question proffootballfocus is because they don't give Heath the credit he deserves for blocking. While I appreciate how Heath can miss the occasional assignment or draw a holding flag here and there I don't think there's another pass catching tight end that's used like he is. I understand Whitten and Gronk are excellent blocking tight ends relatively speaking. And while it's true I don't pay attention to Patriot and Cowboy games to the same degree that I do Steeler games, I still contend that they aren't used the same as Heath. They don't routinely lead sweeps. It's very rare that either are asked to block an interior linebacker, let alone a defensive tackle or end. So it's not the same. Blowing up a safety or corner, or "chipping" a specialized edge rusher isn't the same as taking on a 260+ pound run stopper in the hole and creating a gap or crease for a back to follow through.

Ben is right and has been right for years about Heath. He's the most complete tight end in the league.

i agree with this but dont kid yourself. Gronk is a ridiculous blocker.

I get that. I just don't see him being used like a 3rd tackle like Miller often is. Obviously the guy's a freak and could and probably would do the same things Miller does if asked. Whitten is right there too. But part of my point was that I see Heath's blocking downgraded at times over at profootballfocus because he missed a block or got called on a hold without factoring in that he's being asked to block inside linebackers and defensive lineman, while other pass catching tight ends are rarely given those assignments. Not saying they never do it. But they're not doing it a dozen times in a game, every game. And then in those very same game's catching 4-8 balls.
