They say it's the little things that tell so much about a person ...
Just about everybody knows Aaron Smith is a terrific defensive end, the best 3-4 defensive end in the NFL. "One of the greatest players in Steelers history," teammate Brett Keisel gushed last week. "The key to our defense," captain James Farrior added, aware that All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu and sack masters James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley also play on that unit.

Just the little bit he has played during the preseason so far has made a huge difference on the strength of our defense.
To me he is just as important as Troy on the field....pretty much those two guys can't be replaced like the other defensive players can without noticing a huge drop off in their positions production.

What an excellent read - thanks Sue! :drink:

Though Aaron Smith is and has been one of the best DE's in the NFL for a lot of years and the super glue that holds our DL together, he is such a truly humble man. He knows his role on the team and he gives everything he has each and every week without complaint. The word "ego" isn't and has never been in this great man's vocabulary.

When it comes time for Aaron to hang up his cleats - which I  won't be for quite a while, this is going to be one very sad Steelers fan.

Oh he is the key to the DL and the entire defense like Troy is to the secondary. He is such a factor and it shows because when he goes down to injury no matter who you put in to replace him it's not the same.

Last year was proof of Smith's importance to this team. He is a piece of the puzzle that is unreplaceable. Hope he can stay healthy this season and bring the heat!:tt03:
