Jamaal Charles has done just about everything for the Chiefs this year — run the ball (950 yards), catch passes (33) and score touchdowns (14).

Now, staying healthy, that's another thing.

Kansas City's all-time leading rusher is 50 yards away from his third straight 1,000 yards season (five of his last six) and leads the NFL with 14 total TDs, but he has battled nagging ankle and knee injuries that have limited his touches in the running and passing game.

Charles is second in the NFL with 5.2 yards per carry but is averaging only 14.2 attempts per game.

Charles left Sunday's game against the Raiders in the third quarter after taking a hard hit to the head. He passed the concussion protocol and returned to the game for one play before sitting out the entire fourth quarter because of ankle and knee soreness.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Monday that Charles is probable and will play against the Steelers.

The Chiefs will need him, especially how they want to play offense.
