Jon Gruden has agreed to a contract extension with ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/12035034/jon-gruden-agreed-contract-extension-espn) through the 2021 NFL season.

ESPN announced the deal Monday night.

The Super Bowl-winning coach joined ESPN in May 2009 as an analyst. He teams with play-by-play commentator Mike Tirico on "Monday Night Football" and appears on other ESPN programs.

"Being a part of Monday Night Football alongside our ESPN crew is a dream job," said Gruden. "I love calling big prime-time games every week and spending time with the best players and coaches on the planet, while also finding new ways to teach and talk about football year round. There's no place I'd rather be."

ESPN's NFL rights deal also runs through 2021.

:poop: He completely ruins MNF for me. And ever notices how ESPN and NFL network manipulates the crowd noises? It just sounds so weird. Give me Sunday afternoon football any day..........even with the crappy announcers.

I routinely mute the MNF games. I can provide better commentary in my head.

I like Gruden. Seems like everyone hates anyone who happens to be a prominent on air personality? Collingsworth? Everyone hates him. Simms.Hate him On and on and on, you guys just hate them all..

Oh well, I think they all got where they're at for a reason.

But that's just me. Hate on and mute as you please.

Ok here's a question. Name someone you like?

I only watch Steelers games on MNF. I can handle Chucky. Tirico is the one that makes me vomit. Horrible play by play man.

I never had any issue with Gruden's commentating. I like the fact that he's not afraid to call bullshit when he sees it, and he generally has a good sense of what bullshit is. Never really got why all the hate.

Nobody currently. Used to like Enberg and Olsen back in the day. Cosell was fun to listen to as well. Always liked Summerall too, even after Madden became unbearable.

More likely the silent majority. I think people tend to be more outspoken when they dislike something than if they like something.

I always thought Cosell was a bloviating ass. I've heard multiple members of the press give the same story on Howard, where if he thought you had any inside information or some sort of outside the box poignant perspective on something he'd pick your brain. Then he would go on the air shortly after, pretty much state your opinion or information practically verbatim, and then take complete credit for it. Never even hinting or crediting where the information came from.

Gruden's analysis is actually good. He doesn't hide his displeasure of the refs, though. He's also a character beyond the person that is good for a MNF crowd. Sure, he slobbers over Manning, Brady, Rodgers and Brees but he gives Ben props too.

Tirico is just bad. Play by play man is not supposed to give opinion after every down. Gruden should be the one to offer opinion and analysis. Tirico should shut the hell up and call the damn game.

I like them, but Bill's definitely lost his fast ball. Always calling plays wrong.

Gruden isn't terrible. I don't like how the other talking heads make him out to be this HUGE QB guru...because he's not...

Rich Gannon. I really liked Merlin Olson when he was on the air, too.

I've always like Al Michaels. His voice just says "football" to me.

I'll miss Al's voice someday just like I miss Hank Williams, Jr. singing "Are You Ready for some Football". I'll never forgive the Libs for that one. :mad2:

Oh, Cosell was a horse's ass, no doubt. But I still found him entertaining. :chuckle:

Enberg and Olsen were my favorites as well. Summerall was very good. Madden became comical.

Can't really say I look forward to anyone else currently. I do like the Steelers guy, whenever I get a chance to hear him. But, that is the homer in me.

Rich Gannon. I really liked Merlin Olson when he was on the air, too.

I always thought that Olsen and Dick Enberg were one of the best broadcast duos ever.

Now, this one may get me some stares, but I actually like Troy Aikman and Joe Buck.

Same here - Aikman is probably the least annoying to me from the current bunch.

Just heard Dan Fouts say" when he's healthy the Chargers score at will". Any idea who he was talking about? Wanna take a stab at it? Sure Ryan Mathews, seriously like he's megaton, or Adrian Peterson, announcers are prone to exaggeration
