“Textbook,” Arthur Moats called it. And he was standing at the stall right next to that of Jason Worilds as he spoke. “What that man delivered on that sack was a textbook football play. It’s football. When you teach children how to tackle, that’s how you teach it. When you …”
Moats shook his head in disgust. Couldn’t even complete the thought.

So maybe that was it.

Maybe that was finally it.

Maybe that was the moment, after 14 weeks of chasing ghosts and chopping down what had been the trademark of Pittsburgh’s football franchise, that this defense had enough.

Maybe it took seeing Worilds level Atlanta’s Matt Ryan with what looked for all the world to be a bone-shaking, game-changing and, yes, clean sack, then seeing the officials toss up the yellow flag, then seeing absolute red …

It was a bad call. They called the effect instead of the technique. It almost turned the game around, but the refs evened it up in the 4th. Add on the bad call on ABs catch and you are talking a 14 point swing which could have lost us the game. Who wants to watch a game that is controlled by the refs instead of by the players and negatively impacts the fair score?

The Refs have forced themselves into the spot light, like a Kardashian at a bachelor party. They like it, and are not about the stop now. Not unless someone forces them to, and that will not happen while Goodell is in office. He need a real football man in charge, one that cares about the game, the players, and, of all things, the fans.

doesn't College look at replay at their Targetting / ejected player rule. On a sack or facemask on the QB wht not overturn these when its obviously called wrong. What if it were 4th Down game on the line ffs.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said he approached Blakeman moments later and asked him what he saw on the play.

“He said he thought the hit was a little high,” Roethlisberger said. “He’s one of the good referees. He’s fair. He’ll protect the quarterback, which is what he’s supposed to do. But he won’t call a penalty that makes you go, ‘What the heck was that?’ We didn’t like it because it went against one of our guys. But it’s hard to be too mad at him because that’s a judgment call. That’s a bang-bang play.”

Not all of the Steelers personnel were so kind to Blakeman off the record. More than one wondered if Roethlisberger would have gotten the same call. One suggested the penalty was called because Ryan is a $100 million quarterback. “[Cleveland Browns quarterback] Brian Hoyer wouldn’t get that call.”
