There will be proof right there in the Georgia Dome today that you can run a back quite often in the NFL and the wheels do not necessarily have to come off.

Atlanta's Steven Jackson, 31, has 2,728 rushes over his 11-year NFL career, 16th most in history. He also has 458 pass receptions. Back in his heyday, he made Le'Veon Bell look like something less than a workhorse. In 2006, he carried 346 times and caught 90 passes to account for 40.9 percent of the St. Louis Rams' offensive plays. He had 324 carries and 51 receptions in 2009 and 330/46 in 2010.

And he's still running and catching. He leads the Falcons with 652 yards rushing on 175 carries, although his receiving duties are down to 18 catches.

In all of his 11 seasons, Jackson has never played fewer than 12 games. He has played in all 13 this year.

So all the concern about the Steelers using Bell as a runner and receiver too much may be misplaced. It is certainly premature. Bell is 22 and a young, healthy, big running back. He has 242 carries and 71 receptions. With his 313 combined runs and catches, Bell has accounted for 34.7 percent of the Steelers' 901 offensive plays.

There are backs who flame out, whether from overuse or just losing it. Willie Parker is the most recent example with the Steelers and was the subject of then-first-year coach Mike Tomlin's line that he would run him until "the wheels come off."..............

I still don't think that is a good arguement. I had Jackson on my dynasty fantasy team for all those years and clearly in between the years of huge work load he suffered in the other years. It didn't kill his career , but he had down years that I think you can attribute to over working in the previous year.
