Though the passing game reigns, I believe we're seeing the running back return to relevance a bit.

Think of the Steelers, who have an explosive QB-WR combo in Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown -- and also are relying on a terrific young RB in Le'Veon Bell. Bell's Week 14 performance (235 total yards and three TDs) sparked Chris Wesseling to say on the "Around the NFL Podcast" (http://www.nfl.com/podcasts?series=aroundtheleague-podcast) that if he were starting a team from scratch right now, he'd pick Bell to be his back. Which got me thinking: Who would I go with? So I put together a list, in descending order........

With Bell and Lacey, both 2nd round picks , making as much or more impact than anyone in the draft class of 2013, you have to wonder if teams will start to re-prioritize the rb position again? Of course part of their slipping to where they did comes from teams mis- evaluating Bell and with Lacey it was injury concerns that brought him down.

Regardless I wont be surprised if a running back or two goes in the first round this year. An exceptional running back can change a teams's fortunes a lot quicker than a standout offensive lineman or linebacker imo.

Bell, Hill, Lacey, and Mason have likely made Melvin Gordon a ton of money this season.

Gordon goes from the 2nd to the 1st round as teams re-prioritize positions.

If the trend towards running the ball continues, be interesting to see what associated shifts we see on defense. Do Lbs get bigger again?
