STATEMENT RELEASED ON BEHALF OF ADRIAN PETERSON

The report that I backed out of a meeting with the NFL is just not true. When Roger Goodell's office asked that I attend the “hearing” on Friday, I consulted with my union and learned that this “hearing” was something new and inconsistent with the CBA. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this past week, my union sent emails, letters, and had conversations with his office on my behalf asking about the nature of the hearing, how it was to occur, who would participate, and its purpose. We repeatedly asked them to respond quickly to my questions because I want to cooperate and get back on the field, but they didn't respond until late Wednesday evening, and even then they didn't answer important questions about their proposed “hearing.”

After consulting with the union, I told the NFL that I will attend the standard meeting with the Commissioner prior to possible imposition of discipline, as has been the long-term practice under the CBA, but I wouldn’t participate in a newly created and non-collectively bargained pre-discipline “hearing” that would include outside people I don't know and who would have roles in the process that the NFL wouldn't disclose. At this point, I've resolved my matter in the criminal court; I've worked to make amends for what I've done; I've missed most of the season, and I stand ready to be candid and forthcoming with Mr. Goodell about what happened. However, I will not allow the NFL to impose a new process of discipline on me, ignore the CBA, ignore the deal they agreed to with me, and behave without fairness or accountability. The process they are pushing is arbitrary, inconsistent, and contrary to what they agreed to do, and for those reasons, I never agreed to the hearing.

I'm sorry for all of this, but I can't excuse their refusal to be fair.

With Goodell still in full-on CYA mode over the Rice case, you actually expected fairness? It is to laugh...

I hope the POS never steps on an NFL field again.

What he did was even worse that what Ray Rice did.

but I'm not holding my breath..........I just hope the backlash against the team that signs him is monumental.

I certainly understand why you feel that way. I also hope the Raiders sign him. At this point, What harm can a little backlash do? After all, it's just the Raiders and everyone hates them anyway.

Mark it down: If the Vikes cut him loose, he'll wind up with the Patriots...at a bargain basement price, no less. And not only will there be no backlash, it will be lauded as another brilliant move by the "GEE-NEE-USS" Belichick. :coffee:

This piece from Time (http://time.com/3386791/tom-brady-nfl-ray-rice/) pretty much sums it up...

I used to like and have a lot of respect for Child Beater, but all of that is lost. That Child Beating thug belongs in jail.

That may very well be true, but I wouldn't count out Jerry Jones being in the running.

I saw the pictures but have read very little about this.

However here are my off the cuff thoughts without knowing all of the details.

If Adrian Peterson is punished to the fullest extent the law then so be it.

If he is hung out to dry and forever ruined in the often vicious, arrogant and self righteous court of public opinion and so be it.

At the same time I believe in redemption and second chances.

I hope and pray Adrian Peterson learns from his terrible mistakes and turns his life around and commits his life to helping to prevent this from happening to others. If Peterson is able to play in the NFL again I also hope and pray uses this venue to help increase the awarenes of and reduce abuse.

Every adversity carries within it the potential seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.

Just my $.02

The Cowboys would like nothing more than to have the Vikings cut him. They'd be the first ones on the phone.

R Goodell, judge, jury and executioner. Petersen should have been allowed back with time served along with Rice.

Just in time to be our back up RB.

Don't worry, I'll do it to myself. :buttkick: :asskick:
