NASHVILLE – Asked about the significance of playing the Steelers, Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt (http://www.tennessean.com/search/Ken%20Whisenhunt/)smiles and says most of their current players don’t even know who he is.

Aside from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (http://www.tennessean.com/story/titansinsider/2014/11/12/titans-zach-mettenberger-ben-roethlisbergernfl/18929437/) and a few other veterans, Whisenhunt is probably correct in that regard.

But it’s still hard to believe Monday’s game at LP Field is simply the next one on the schedule for Whisenhunt and three of his Titans (http://www.tennessean.com/sports/titans/) assistants — defensive coordinator Ray Horton, tight ends coach Mike Mularkey and linebackers coach Lou Spanos — who spent a combined 36 years coaching the Steelers.

The memories are mainly positive ones for Whisenhunt, who helped shape Roethlisberger into the NFL Rookie of the Year in 2004, helped guide the Steelers to four playoff berths in six years and served as offensive coordinator on their Super Bowl-winning team of 2005.

But there was disappointment at the end, when Whisenhunt, a candidate to replace Bill Cowher following the 2006 season, was passed over for Mike Tomlin.
