Maybe he should just team up with Bettis since the Bus already has his own restaurant right across the street from Heinz Field.

Roethlisberger, partner plan to open sports restaurant

Ben Roethlisberger is looking to bring his restaurant venture to Pittsburgh.
The Steelers quarterback and a restaurant developer are scouting spaces in the North Hills to house an incarnation of King Street Grille in Charleston, S.C., with a menu and sports programming tailored to Western Pennsylvania fans.
Roethlisberger is an investor in four King Street Grille restaurants, which has five locations in Charleston and two in Myrtle Beach. He bought into the restaurants when he met owner Scott Kier, who grew up in Greensburg, on a golf trip to Charleston. The two have been business partners for six years, Kier said.
“We've been kicking around the idea for a few years,” Kier said. “We're really looking forward to the Pittsburgh market. I was raised up there. We just feel it's going to be a good fit.”
The restaurant could open in six months, depending how long it takes to find space or build one, said Terri Sokoloff, president of Specialty Bar & Restaurant Brokers, which is representing the partners.
Sokoloff declined to put a cost to the project or disclose what Roethlisberger is contributing. The restaurant will host events for the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation.
“There's a lot of Steelers that live out in the North (Hills) area. That's why we're focusing a little bit in the north, because Ben lives in the area,” Sokoloff said.

The guy makes $10 million per season, why does he need those headaches? He should anything but restaurants.

Agreed - the restaurant business is really hard to make a buck in.

And it's a terrible business to go into at this point and time in this economy.

How about bringing another Lombardi to Pittsburgh...

I'd rather chew on that.

Most famous-player sports restaurants tend to be overpriced and disappointing. I can't say I'm very interested in them.

I wonder when the first whiny Seahawks fan will say, "Nice menu, where's the Rapist Burger?"

SR, you live in San Diego? Did you ever go to Seau's? That is the only "real" player owned bar/restaurant I have ever been to. (I was visiting my cousins and they took me there in 1997). Even there, I saw people with Steelers jerseys because, you know, Steeler fans "travel" well.......:chuckle:

We've only been here since January, so I've never eaten there ... was it any good? Looks like it closed down for good a couple years ago.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/05/junior-seaus-restaurant-closes-its-doors/1

Also looks like it was losing a bunch of money, and he lost a shit-ton of money in another restaurant. We used to live in the Bay Area and I remember McCovey's restaurant being some of the worst food I can remember, and eventually I think it got sold to some guy who had nothing to do with it and just wanted to use the name. Not the best business to be in.

I guess athletes think name recognition is going to help get publicity, but once that wears off, it gets treated like a regular restaurant where it's judged on the food and price, and then you're basically left in the position of being in a business you know nothing about, and competing against people who have been doing it for generations. It's no wonder most of them fail.

Seau's was a nice looking place. Food was your typical sports bar/restaurant menu.

Don Shula seems to have a successful chain of restaurants. We have one here and we aren't Dolphins territory at all.

Elway's seems to be on everyone's Top 10 list.

Surprisingly, Vince Young's restaurant is listed on some lists.

Ben should pick his hero (Elway)'s brain about restaurants.

Yeah that was a good place.
Yep and all the players would eat there after the game. It was a good place to get a bunch of autographs if coming in from out of town

In their case, as long as the Tampax machine in the ladies' room is kept well-stocked, they're all good...

Don't know why - it's not that great. It's also expensive as hell.

I think Santonio Holmes needs to retire and open a restaurant ... or more accurately, a bakery ... specializing primarily in brownies, if you know what I mean.

And also they let you smoke weed there.

Ate at Bettis's place a few times when in the 'burgh. I thought it was a okay place, average price with average food. So if Ben is looking for a restaurant future he may think of going into another direction. Burger joints and sports bars are blah anymore, you need something unique and different. Hard to succeed. At least now we all know where his mind is at times on game days.

Ben already has a few restaurants here in SC. They really aren't restaurants, they are sports bars called King Street Grille and that is what he is going to bring up to Pittsburgh from what the article says. Decent sports bar with a really good menu and the prices are pretty good. I've watched a few games at the King Street Grille in Charleston and liked it. From what I understand he opened the chain with his old college room mate, and he brought us a Lombardi while owning these so maybe another Lombardi will come with the opening of a new one

Bettis' place is Bettis' place in name only. Same menu and company as the Eddie George Grille in Columbus, among many others.

There's a Ditka's on the west end of Pittsburgh and it ain't bad, but it's just down the road from Burgatory which is where you should really eat.

I don't know about Ben trying to run a restaurant. The food will be great one week and terrible the next.

And what a high turnover rate - the waitstaff is always getting sacked.
