It wasn't by design that the Steelers will start four players against the Baltimore Ravens who were signed as free agents in the offseason. The plan, really, was that only one, safety Mike Mitchell, was brought in to be a starter. And another, defensive end Cam Thomas, might possibly blend into one.

But circumstances due to injuries and inconsistent play have thrust cornerback Brice McCain and outside linebacker Arthur Moats into starting roles in the Steelers defense.

That has not happened on offense, where three prominent veterans were signed in free agency -- running back LeGarrette Blount, slot receiver Lance Moore and wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Blount, who was signed to a two-year, $3.85 million contract, was brought in to be a solid backup to Le'Veon Bell, and he has been that. But Moore, who was signed to a two-year, $3 million contract to replace Jerricho Cotchery, has only recently moved into the role of slot receiver. He has two touchdowns in the past three games.

With the exception of McCain's 22-yard interception return for touchdown in Jacksonville, the Steelers have not had a significant impact from their free-agent acquisitions.

Not like the Baltimore Ravens............
