Welcome to the new NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers. What took you so long?
In a league that keeps approving rules to make passing the ball easier and less dangerous, the Steelers long resisted fully coveting that part of the game. They wanted to run and play great defense, they wanted to control the ball and keep it away from the other gunslinger as long as they could. At the very least, they wanted balance between the run and the pass.
It worked, too, as those six Lombardi trophies can attest. But they no longer have that kind of stifling defense, no longer are built to wear down opponents with the run............
