In short, Ben Roethlisbergerhttp://www.steelers.com/assets/nflimg/icon-article-link.gif (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/ben-roethlisberger/54dda34e-9e43-4c57-9397-1143ddced5d6/) was everything his team needed him to be, and because the game was against a potent offensive opponent, he was everything his team needed him to be for all 60 minutes.

Roethlisberger completed 40-of-49 for 522 yards, with six touchdowns and no interceptions to finish with a rating of 150.6. He became the first player in NFL history to pass for over 500 yards twice in a career; he became one of four quarterbacks in NFL history to win his 100th game within 150 career starts. As for this particular game, Roethlisberger was the biggest reason why the Steelers converted 62 percent on third downs, why the Steelers were 5-for-6 in the red zone, why the Steelers almost doubled the Colts’ time of possession by finishing with 39:43, why the Steelers defeated the Indianapolis Colts, 51-34, at Heinz Field.

Ben Roethlisberger is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were Antonio Brown (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/antonio-brown/859114e9-d70b-477b-8eaf-6f34bb1ffc03/), who caught 10 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns; Heath Miller (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/heath-miller/ada7ab1b-9acd-421a-bed0-79ccc4542630/), who caught seven passes for 112 yards and a touchdown; Le’Veon Bell, who rushed for 92 yards and added another 56 on receptions to finish with 148 from scrimmage; Martavis Bryant (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/martavis-bryant/d3e65c5f-f569-43ff-ab7e-58aeaa6d3e32/), who caught five passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns; Jason Worilds (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/jason-worilds/5c613eee-74dc-496d-85ff-b2dfb90b0b14/), who had two tackles, three hits on the quarterback, and one pass defensed, Cam Heyward, who was credited officially with only one tackle but had a couple of sacks nullified by penalty; William Gay (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/william-gay/1a5771c1-6fa2-4076-94a2-44fef5695d61/), who had six tackles on defense, an interception he returned 33 yards for a touchdown, and two special teams tackles; Troy Polamalu (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/troy-polamalu/1b1010ec-73b6-414d-88ee-72dbd9b48597/), who had six tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble; and Lawrence Timmons (http://www.steelers.com/team/roster/lawrence-timmons/afc86dd7-633e-4e37-a4da-5f089a96b666/), who had four tackles, and two hits on the quarterback.

Can't beat 6 Touchdowns and 500+ Yards passing. Well deserved.

I'm surprised nobody is giving much credit to Todd Haley and the O-Line for this great offensive performance.

Yeah, Ben had a great game, but give some credit to Haley and the O-Line too.

It's out there. And Tomlin as well. Got the players on the same page today. Except Cortez, not sure what book he is reading.

And we're all surprised that you're willing to give any of the credit to Ben. :chuckle:

The Good, the bad, and the ugly. But damn it if someone didn't go sticking the pages of The Good together on him. :heh:

Just shows you how great of a game Ben had today. Or someone hacked his account.

Just imagine if Ben had this kind of blocking all these years.

1. Roethlisberger's 522 yards are tied with Boomer Esiason for the fourth-most in NFL history. His six touchdown passes and 40 completions are the most by any quarterback in franchise history. His 81.6 completion percentage is the second-highest ever on more than 45 attempts. The numbers are not misleading in any way. Roethlisberger was on point all afternoon, dropping perfect throws into the hands of nine different receivers. More than just a career game, it was one of the most impressive aerial attacks ever seen on a gridiron. Quarterback play doesn't get any better.

Aren't there a few threads around here talking about trading him at the end of the season? GTFO! I don't want anyone else leading this team every week.

Haha! No kidding! And I definitely wasn't trying to imply that you did! Sorry if it came off that way.

If he (was allowed) to play like this every week it would have never been brought up. Nice that he wasn't hamstrung by a dink and dunk game plan for a change. I saw where Ben was 8-11 today for 205 yards and two TD's on passes that traveled over 15 yards in the air. I'm not sure he threw 11 passes on the season before today of that length. Ok that was a little sarcastic. But not much.

I agree with this 100%. If they don't let him play this way for the rest of the season, they're asking to be fired(the coaches).

Nine quarterbacks threw for more than 300 yards on Sunday. Two stood above the rest.

We'll start with Tom Brady (http://www.nfl.com/player/tombrady/2504211/profile), who hasn't just silenced his doubters -- he's banished them to the cornfield (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETfzfy0jy74). Brady was nearly perfect (http://www.nfl.com/share/page/site/nfl-com/www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000417738/article/tom-brady-throws-five-tds-as-patriots-destroy-bears)against the Chicago Bears (http://www.nfl.com/teams/chicagobears/profile?team=CHI), completing 30 of 35 passes for 354 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-23 win (http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2014102605/2014/REG8/bears@patriots). Brady finally looks comfortable with his receivers and is back to terrorizing the opposition with security blanket Rob Gronkowski (http://www.nfl.com/player/robgronkowski/497240/profile). There might not be a better one-two punch in football right now.
Brady's first two quarters against the Bears (http://www.nfl.com/teams/chicagobears/profile?team=CHI) were probably the best by any quarterback this season. Then Ben Roethlisberger (http://www.nfl.com/player/benroethlisberger/2506109/profile)took the field.

One of only a couple of mistakes Ben made was running that naked bootleg. If they passed he could have had the NFL record the way they were moving the ball. In addition, Aaron Rogers injured his hamstring on a bootleg last night which affected his performance and will probably nag him for the rest of the season. Something to think about.

Yeah that was a real bad idea. Ben claims it was his call. I tend to believe him. I think what he's thinking is that if he fakes the handoff to LeVeon, who's only 8 yards short of 100 yards everyone and their brother is going to bunch up in the middle to stop the obvious play on the 3rd and 2 in that situation given the game flow. I think he thought he'd get out in the flat with absolutely no one in his area code and drop on the field as soon as he secured the first down yardage. Honestly I was shocked that the Colts had two guys right on him. I think Ben was too, and if you asked him he would probably tell you so.
