Special teams coach Danny Smith is working with a rookie kick returner in Dri Archer and a first-year punter in Brad Wing, and he acknowledges it can be aggravating coaching youth.

Archer, the third-round draft choice, averages an NFL-low 17.9 yards on kickoff returns and has yet to display his NFL Combine-best 4.2 speed.

“He's got to do better selling stuff and we have to do a better job blocking,” Smith said Thursday. “I think he'll be fine, (but) it sure hasn't shown yet.

“Right now, he thinks it's all about speed, and you know it isn't. There are a lot of fast guys working at McDonald's that can't play this game. … (But) as soon as that kid makes a play, we'll all be jumping on the bandwagon.“ .........
