You mean other than the fact that he's never done anything good in the history of the universe until today?

Well, McCain is playing alot, since he is the new nickel corner. This has been the case for a few games now. It remains to be seen how good he is or is not

I like that what I hear about him studying game film and practicing in anticipation of stuff. I just haven't seen him be all that great at covering his man. But maybe he's a diamond in the rough. Too early to judge at this point. We kind of know what he have with Gay and what the bar is for him. If McCain can pass that, that would be great news.

Cortez has been disappointing this year to be sure. At least he seems to be working on his game and being opportunistic when the other team screws up. His pick against Tampa could have been mad by anyone (besides Ike) given that Evans gothurt and stopped running. This week, it was an underthrown ball, but at least he jumped and fought to get it. I like the effort. Now let's see if he can cover someone for 60 minutes.

He lost another fumble though.

This one belonged to him. Last week's did not.

Given starting field position I thought Ben played a good ( not great) game. I thought Haley sucked ass. Anyone care to tell me why on a critical 3rd and short with the game's outcome possibly in the balance Archer and Johnson are in the back field while the Doobie Brothers are on the sidelines?

And speaking of Archer. What a waste of a 3rd round pick. :frusty: .

1st and goal at the 4. LeVeon Bell is a big part of the reason we get down there. Can anyone tell me why we go empty backfield here? I'm not saying you run it here. I'm saying at least have a back in the back field and make the safeties and linebackers play it honest. In the end zone the defense is in a position that they don't have to protect as much of the field. Now you've given them your play call. Smart move.

I don't know what happens to this team in the red zone. Really, really puzzling. fs'76 and I said the same thing in the game day thread. Something is wrong with Haley, Ben and the offense when they hit that 20 yard line.

my quick hitter is this ....

Tomlins lack of authority was never clearer when Lance Moore clearly was arguing with hin after being scolded for a bone headed penalty ....

when a first year on the team player who has done basically nothing for you shows that little of respect for the head coach ( and said player has never shown that attitude in his prior half dozen years in the league while on other teams ) it should be a good barometer of team attitude / respect level of the HC and the fact nobody snatched him up and got him away from the outburst may say even more ??

just a thought

Lance Moore is a proven NFL slot receiver who showed excellent rapport with Ben during OTA's and training camp. If this offense is top start operating up to expectations Moore is going to have to be given more opportunity to play. Yeah he made a poor decision after his catch. But others have done worse and not been given the bench for the rest of the game like he was. Wide receivers tend to be self indulgent at times. You deal with it as it happens.

Ben wants this guy on the field. Give him more reps and this offense will improve. Particularly in the red zone. Don't let petty personality issues get in the way. You don't cut off your nose to spite your face. We need more of Moore, not less.

There is certainly something going on here. Moore made the catch, and got up and stared at the Steelers sidelines and emphatically spiked the ball. Staring down the sideline the entire time. I think Moore is a frustrated veteran player who does not understand why a minimal talent like J. Brown is playing over him. This is a situation to monitor. These are the kinds of issues, that to me, are a truer test of a coaching staff then some of the things that we have mentioned on here previously.

There is a veteran player who is clearly angry about his playing time. He seems likely to enter into conflict with the coaches over it. How is it handled? Does it spread?

I thought it was because Moore was out for the first two games of the year with a groin injury(?)

Moore wasn't benched the rest of the game. He was out there blocking two plays later.

My mistake. Didn't watch the game until today. Was on the road, listening to it on Sirius. Got the impression from the Steelers broadcast crew that Moore's snaps were sparse to nonexistent after his catch and penalty.

Well, whatever the reason for Moore's lacking of playing time, it seems semi-official that he was spiking the ball at the sideline/coaching staff.

This could get interesting...

That spike didn't help his cause but he needs to be on the field now.
