LB James Harrison scheduled to meet Tuesday with Steelers coaches. Assuming it goes well, he signs with PITT.

With Jones hurt, the Steelers have no other option at OLB.

Let's do it. Silverback Attack.

Last year in Pitt was hurt. In Cincy he was a bad fit. Period.

And it's simply a matter of desperation at this point. The Steelers don't have any other viable options.

I bemoaned Brett Keisel coming back and he's been our most consistent D-lineman so far. I wouldn't be so down on Harrison.

Yeah. I have to agree. Even Arizona, who with Abraham out is desperate for a pass rush, didn't see enough to make it happen.

I suspect this is the "best" move that could be made so there is someone who could play if they had to one Sunday, and another depth move may be made in a week or so.

Possibly because most understand that that are not bringing him back with the expectation of being the same James Harrison....but rather as a player whose skills have diminished from starter to legitimate wave player status.

You're right, to a point. He's not the same player. But, he understands this defense and can slide right in. Moreover, he's a stabilizing factor on a defense that needs stability. I'm not jumping for joy, nor am I down on it. Either way, it'll be nice to see him in uniform one more time.

Two very different positions however, but you're right in one element. The fact that he is a veteran of this defense will make him able to contribute even with diminished skills as compared to bringing in a journeyman.

I suspect this is the "best" move that could be made so there is someone who could play if they had to one Sunday, and another depth move may be made in a week or so. Possibly, but I'm thinking that the staff are hoping there's a little more in the tank. The "Fill Up Soon" light is definitely on, but usually, you can go a little farther still. Maybe until January.

I don't know, LLT, I think a few are projecting we're getting the Deebo of the late 00s back. They may not consciously be thinking it, but the idea's there nonetheless IMO.

say what you will about James Harrison but the fact is this ...

no OLB in recent Steelers History ( including prior to #92 and now coach Peezy ) could set the edge like James , age does not change that

He will not be ( or should not be ) asked to be an every down LBer he will get a series here and there and probably less than that at first

he was a bad fit in Cinci , he was playing hurt here his last year ( not making excuses just pointing out facts ) and based on that do we even know what he has left ? ( could be more or less than any of us think ) its truly and unknown

Leadership .... he has it in spades

Vocal leader again has it in spades

intimidation factor , again in spades

he has not lost his strength and if he can manage the angles anywhere close to what he could 3 years ago he should still be able to rush the passer when rested.... ( his body lean was insane )

I could see him being a very very good 15 - 20 snap a game player even at this point

I could also be wrong but really what do we have to lose .... nothing

Count Steeler
09-22-2014, 09:39 PM
What kind of shape is he in? Don't see him playing for a couple of weeks.

I would rather see Howard Jones brought in and get him on the learning curve.

Harrison shouldn't be a liability, but the coaching staff could get stubborn and leave him in, just because. Should be an interesting linebacker meeting with Peezy and Deebo in the same room.

I think that James will be able to be productive in spurts. He was in great shape when he was in Cinci, but their scheme was quite different. I think for 15-20 snaps a game he'll be a big pain in the ass for every left tackle he sees

Can you imagine the roar of the crowd when he comes charging out of that tunnel in Heinz Field?

Play Renegade? HE IS RENEGADE!!!!!

This is the emotional spark we need, like Ray Lewis in his final year for the Ravens. This is destiny.

And Roger Goodell is in no position to make any move against him that has even the stench of personal revenge.

Like James said to the commish:

"Ain't no fun when the rabbit's got the gun."

Harrison can bench a frickin' house. He still posts workouts on his FB page. As far as game speed, I'd guess he'd be relegated to strictly pass rushing. I like the move, he won't be what he once was, but he's a serviceable option for a team that is suddenly in need of one. Plus he's intense and will bring that element to the game. Maybe he can teach Jarvis how to set the edge while he recovers.

If so please get video of the crowd around you when JH comes out of the tunnel. It's going to be one of those chills up the spine moments.

And imagine the first time they put him on the field. There's no way the TB offense should be able to hear the snap count. The roar will be deafening.

I think Harrison coming back is good for a few reasons ( I still have him in a damn bunghole uniform embedded in my mind probably forever, but that will be my problem) One reason is naturally because of injuries and Harrison knows the system. Another is the respect that player's have for him. Hopefully some of the youngster's will learn from him. And of course there is the fact that he will now end his career legit as a Black/Gold player. Damn bunghole uniform pic. !
