Steelers Add 10 Players To The Practice Squad

The Steelers have signed 10 players to the team’s practice squad, the team announced today.

The Steelers signed wide receivers C.J. Goodwin and Derek Moye, offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva, defensive backs Shaquille Richardson and Ross Ventrone, defensive linemen Josh Mauro and Nick Williams, running back Josh Harris, tight end Rob Blanchflower and linebacker Howard Jones.

The Steelers resume practice on Monday at approximately 10:45 a.m. in advance of their Week 1 game versus the Cleveland Browns at Heinz Field.

Who is Alejandro Villanueva? He's a big boy, 6'9" 280# and served as an Amry Ranger. A bit of discipline can't hurt!

Happy to see Mauro, HoJo, and Blanch make it. I didn't think Mauro would... but if the year goes well for him, there's our guy to step up into that backup role next season.

I'm not sure why the Steeler site has Ali listed as an O-line, he was listed DE for the Eagles? Guess he played WR & T in college? Maybe Munch see's some LT promise in him.

Villanueva, the U.S. Army Ranger captain who served three tours in Afghanistan and received the Bronze Star for Valor for moving forward under enemy fire to pull wounded rangers from an isolated position, said he was grateful for the opportunity that the Eagles gave him and was uncertain about his future.

I would think he would be safe, Dwins. From what I understand a team that took him would have to place him on their 53 man roster, and no one drafted him so lets hope!

I am still befuddled at him being Undrafted ... I had him as a 4th round talent and mocked to steelers at that point ... his preseason play surpassed our 2nd round D Linemans ( granted vs lesser competition )

I'm glad these guys all made it through ... but being on the practice squad is far from "safe," since other teams can sign them any time. That's happened a few times before, and I'm worried it would happen to a couple of our guys the first time some other team has a compatible injury. I'm hoping we eventually come to our senses about certain other players *coughjonescough* and make some space before that happens.

The thing with the Steelers practice squad is if somebody wants to pilfer our player we can always do that to theirs. Case in point the monkey business the Patriots did with Sanders. If the Pats did not do that I doubt we would have committed to the second year for their former RB Tommy Chong.

We let the Cards slide because we already cut or never renewed contracts for players or coaches. IT's like a pipeline of ex-Steelers that go to AZ.
